Just weeks ago Dabo had slid down into the netherquadrants of the Dab-O-Meter. The more fickle fans were burning their ALL IN shirts and flinging their own excrement in shame, rage, and mild confusion. A solid victory over Wake seemed to right the ship a bit, but we’d have to wait to see if things took a Tommy Bowden plunge into bitchassness.
Thankfully they did not, though a careful nitpicking of the game proves that there were still a fair share of coaching and execution shortcomings to make one at least a bit cautious about the future and to suggest that perhaps you oughta hold off just for a couple weeks before buying your tickets to Tampa.
The fan base has always been quick to throw caution into the wind, and as the freshness started to wear off the Miami upset, fans were fumbling over their keyboards to type I’M ALL IN AGAIN and post it on Tigernet as fast as their gravy stained fingers could handle. Let’s look at where Dabo has moved this week. Remember, for whoever last week was whining about not being able to decipher the graph, we’ve got the Southern Folksy Charm rating along the x axis, represented by the Wal-Mart child slapper to Andy Griffith scale. Along the y axis is the scale of coaching prowess from Danny Ford to ham sandwich.

The Tigers left Landshark Stadium a burning husk filled with charred jorts and gold chains. Dabo Swinney rode out of South Beach (because that’s exactly where the stadium is, right on the beach! Really!) on the shoulders of giants in orange and white and surveyed his team’s magnificent stance as the top squad in the nationally respected, mighty, dog-eat-dog ACC Atlantic Division. Could this coach, in his first full year at the helm of the Tigers, really take the team to the ACCCG? Can Dabo do what Bowdendn’t? (feel free to put that on a shirt you guys). He certainly seems to have come full circle… err… sort of rhomboid back to near or slightly above where he was when hired.
Next week we’ll see what happens when the Tigers take on the Coastal Carolina Totally Rad Aquachickens in a matchup with little upside for the Dab-O-Meter. Win big and he barely moves up as it’s expected, a close game maybe nudges him down a bit, and a loss would precipitate a fall dangerously close to busting through the bottom of the chart where a malevolent Cerberus of coaching abominations (whose figure may be revealed in a future post) is chained, its maws glistening with slobber as it waits to gobble up a coaching failure. Let’s hope he doesn’t meet the three headed faildog. Until next time.

Paul Strelow with The State released a small blurb stating the Cullen Harper has been invited to tryout at a mini-camp with the Buffalo Bills. Here it is verbatim:
Former Clemson quarterback Cullen Harper has agreed to a free-agent tryout with the Buffalo Bills.
Harper is one of two quarterbacks the Bills are expected to bring in for a rookie mini-camp this weekend.
“It was disappointing (not to get drafted), but I have an opportunity, and I can’t ask for more than that,” Harper said.

Block-C.com has received a statement via text message from former Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden that reads, “He got wut he desrved LULZ – T Beezy”
***NOTE*** – Dammit, someone beat me to the joke in the comments section.

As Tom predicted over at Anti-Bowden, Cullen Harper has been thrown under the bus by Tommy Bowden. This article from the Anderson Independent details how Harper is being made the scapegoat for the season’s troubles. Naming Korn starter was a shallow move by Bowden designed to deflect criticism off himself for a second and remedy what is almost sure to be poor attendance for the GT noon game. So sayeth the article:
Harper has struggled with downfield passing, throwing four touchdowns against six interceptions (as many as he had in 13 games last season) in six games.
However, those problems seem far more connected to offensive line instability. It is inconceivable that a quarterback who threw for 28 touchdowns against six interceptions as a junior and had NFL first-round talk floating around him this summer suddenly lost those abilities.
He has become a scapegoat for the larger problems surrounding him.
So, at first I (Chili) was a bit conflicted about the situation. I’m in agreement that Korn’s scrambling ability could be better with the offensive line playing as poorly as they are. There have been a small handful of designed QB scrambles this season and everytime I see one I know Korn would be better suited for that play. However, it can be argued that most of Cullen’s troubles this season are due to poor protection and playcalling. As a senior and captain of the team, I don’t think Harper has done enough to merit being benched. Maybe Korn could have been integrated into games a bit more, I think that would’ve been understandable to most.
The thing that really irks me is the way Bowden apparently handled the situation - delivering the news to Cullen via voicemail (or text message, there are conflicting reports) and reportedly not getting in touch with Korn before announcing the change to the media – not to mention announcing the QB change a week in advance when it’d be a smart strategic move to hide it and keep GT guessing. Larry Williams with the Post & Courier has an article about how icy the mood is on the practice fields. I feel that this move, which was designed to help turn things around, may ultimately plunge the team further into the abyss. A much smarter move would’ve been the firing of Rob Spence, but that would probably make too much sense. (See what I did there, I implied that Bowden’s moves make little sense)

Brief bit of info coming from this afternoon’s teleconference. Nobody is fired, but Willy Korn has been named starter at QB for the GT game.
Baby steps.
Putting in Korn won’t help that much if Spence is still calling plays. Fans should revolt if he is not fired before the GT game. His staggering ineptitude the past two games and post game quote when asked what was going on with his offense, “I don’t understand that, okay?” should be more than enough grounds for dismissal.
***UPDATE***
More probably completely unfounded rumors are saying that an announcement will be made Monday that Bowden and/or Spence have been fired. I don’t really believe that, but we’ll see come Monday.
