CASE CLOSED!
Larry Williams has his Wednesday practice report up over at the Post & Courier. Tommy Bowden was asked to respond to criticisms that his teams always seem to lose a game to a team they should beat.
His response:
“That’s the way it is with most teams. Southern Cal. Ohio State. Usually all of them lose to a team that they shouldn’t have. LSU lost to Kentucky. I wish I could win them all. But Maryland’s a good team that gives full scholarships. Coach Friedgen is a good coach. They’ve got good players.”
[sarcasm]Man, what a wonderful answer. That really seals it for me, case closed. We’re going to be alright. Whew, that really quells all my fears about this team. It also makes me warm and fuzzy to know that we’re right up there with the Southern Cals, Ohio States, and LSUs. [/sarcasm]
TAKING ON THE IMPATIENT
Of the many Clemson fans calling for Bowden’s head, those who want him gone immediately almost assuredly are in the minority. Ron Morris over at The State takes a break from riling up Sakerlina fans to rib Tiger faithful a bit this week. He takes aim at those who want to pull the trigger immediately. He is pretty on point here, though for the sake of an interesting article, and for the sake of making the Clemson fanbase appear even more fickle than it is, he almost makes it seem as if the “Bowden’s gotta go now” are the majority.
LEVON TO BE HONORED
Levon Kirkland will be honored at this year’s ACC Championship Game (let’s hope he’s not the only Tiger there) as one of the ACC Legends for 2008. The ACC picks one legendary player from each member institution to honor at each season’s championship game. This is not only a nice gesture, but getting 12 legends and their families down there each year nearly doubles the attendance figures.
I fondly recall Willy Mac telling me about the time he was in Best Buy to pick up a copy of Quarterback Princess and ran into Levon in the DVD aisle. Willy said he just stared at the mountain of a man all awkwardly until Levon acknowledged him. At that point Willy just said “Uh… I just wanna say…. thank you,” and wandered off to the “Special Interest” section.
Chili:
Trailer Park Boys - This Canadian mockumentary is billed as “COPS filmed from the criminals perspective” and is one of the funniest television shows I’ve ever seen. There is also a feature film out that is just as good as the show. Pick them up on Demonoid or Pirate Bay or, legally, from Netflix. In this clip Ricky, one of the three stars of the show, reacts to being busted for stealing satellite signals.
Spaten Oktoberfest - High gravity beers are all the rage here in SC, and it seems like so many people these days are scouring bars for the strongest beers they can get their hands on. Those of us who have been familiar with a wider selection of beers for longer know that it’s not always the strongest beer that makes the best drink. Spaten’s is the quintessential Oktoberfest beer in my opinion, and is available now, all fresh and delicious, at your nearest beer store or Oktoberfest block party. Goes great with sausage and a big boobed beer-frau.

GelaSkins - Forever and ever I’ve stuck with the same 80gb ipod. The old, bulky, black original video ipod. I’ve treated it so bad and I felt that I wanted something to protect it and spice it up. I was digging through an old Cigar Aficianado while on the toilet, saw this site in the back, and loved it. Not the fact that its a sticker, but I ordered the American flag one and it really does work as well as a protective covering. It’s great as it’s reinforced for extra protection. Give them a check out here.
Samichlaus - I’m going the other way from Chili, I’m going to recommend one of the strongest lagers in the world. It’s also the tastiest in my honest opinion. Made by the Schloss Eggenberg brewery in Austria and hailing in at an impressive 14% alcohol in each bottle, this beer has some good kick. It’s brewed once a year, every year on December 6th. The best part about it is that if you take care of it, it’s like a good wine: it only gets better with age. The 2006 can still be found at most Whole Foods type stores, but I can’t wait for the 2007 brew.

"I can almost taste that bourbon now." - Andrew Reed (Guess he doesn't like scotch?)

We booted those that didn’t get in contact with Willy Mac, so if you’re coming here wondering why, your name was on the kill list and you never emailed him.
Our friend Andrew Reed, Big Blue fan and alum (Sorry your team is crap now… wait… nevermind. You guys have had your fun.) from Buenos Aires has taken the top spot this week. As promised, you are to get a Chik-Fil-A prize pack. Given that you won’t need it though and most everyone else tied, we’re gonna give it to Mr. ScalpEm.com. You gotta just love the fact that NoleCC consistenly flops week in and week out. For that, we salute you sir. Perhaps you’re deserving of your own “Undaunted Courage” article.
Remember to get your picks in early.
Well after a establishing a commanding lead, Sam is appearing more mortal every week. Tully took everyone this week though with 13 correct picks. The real story is the fact that there were three ( yes 3) pushes this week. Teams winning by exactly the spread is not cool, especially when you’ve got 7 guys trying to win a very fine bottle of scotch. Let’s hope those shenanigans don’t happen again. Keep getting those picks in guys, there are only 3 weeks left until a winner is declared. But even if you don’t win this one, you might have the privilege of participating in some sort of bowl challenge, we’ll see though. Enough about that, here’s how things went this week:
1) Sam +102 (8)
2) Chili +96 (10)
T3) Lyrtch +94 (9)
T3) Tully +94 (13)
5)Willy Mac +93(10)
6) Seigler +91 (10)
7) NoleCC +88 (8)
Well, little can be said about this weeks performance, everyone was within a point of each other , just about. Chili was this weeks winner with 8 correct picks and the tie breaker, which helped him claim the number two spot. Other than that, the standings don’t look much different than last week.
1) Sam +94 (6)
2) Chili +86 (8)
3) Lyrtch +85 (6)
4) Willy Mac +83 (8)
T5) Tully +81 (7)
T5) Seigler +81 (7)
7) NoleCC +80 (8)
Well, after good showings the last 2 weeks, I’m back where I belong in the standings I guess. Things are again equalizing, and even after missing a week, Tully is back in this thing for sure. We’ve got two competitors that have called it quits , so we’re down to seven competitors now. Suprisingly, this weeks overall champion was Willy Mac, and the fan base is wondering whom he paid for the advice. Here’s how things looked this week.
1) Sam +88 (6)
2) Lyrtch +79 (9)
3) Chili +78 (10)
4) Willy Mac +75 (10)
T5) Tully +74 (10)
T5) Seigler +74 (5)
7) NoleCC +72 (6)
8) Brad DNF
This week was a good week, for most in the competition, still Sam holds his commanding lead. All hope is not lost though people, unless you just forget to submit picks for a week. I know things come up, but if you plan to stay in the running, missing even one week might put you completely out of it. That being said, and because we have several players who have failed to submit picks this week, we’re instituting a new rule. If you miss more than 2 weeks picks, you’re officially disqualified from competition. Tully, after a strong showing at the beginning has been dropped from 2nd to 7th this week, and Brad has all but taken himself out of competition. Most all involved had a strong week picking, still, we wish the best of luck to all in the future. Here’s how the standings look this week.
1) Sam +82 (10)
2) Lyrtch +70 (9)
3) Seigler +69 (13)
4) Chili +68 (7)
5) NoleCC +66 (5)
6) Willy Mac +65 (9)
7)Tully +64 (0)
8) Brad +52 (0)
9) Captain DNF
