The More You Know:

Clemson can't let Virginia Tech get easy inside shots tonight if they expect to win.

If Clemson looks to win tonight, they’re going to have to apply the full court press, not let Virginia Tech get inside pressure, and rebound on both sides of the ball.  Virginia Tech is a very complete team that matches up well with us.  After the near let down at Georgia Tech, this could easily be a trap game especially given the fact that it’s a home game.

Our Take:

Chili: My best estimation is that the Tigers will start a bit slow again. This could be just a weekend thing or maybe an away game thing, so they could burst right out of the gate. But I’m betting they won’t. The diamond press will wear down the Hokies over the course of the game and Clemson will prevail by the spread or a few more. REALLY BOLD PREDICTION EH?

Clemson x, Virginia Tech x-11, x>0.

Willy Mac: This game is about as straight forward as you can look at it.  If we play our assignments and don’t get bored or make stupid passes, we should control this one throughout.

Clemson 86, Virginia Tech 79

Sorry it took so long to finally get around to a post today, but we were working hard trying to not shit our pants. While we were busy doing that, the Clemson teams were busy beating teams all damned weekend.

BEISBOL
On the diamond, Clemson swept their opening series of the season, besting a good Charlotte 49ers team in three straight games.  They relied on some great freshmen, awesome pitching, and smart baseball play and it really came together for them.  As a result, they moved up one spot in the Baseball America (from 13 to 12) and the Collegiate Baseball (26 to 25) polls.  The next game is against Wofford at our place on Wednesday at 4PM. I’m going to try and do a good job of keeping the Block-C baseball schedule updated as much as possible, so you guys can have a reliable and quick source instead of having to pry through the internet for forty minutes just to find one score or date/time.  Just remember to bookmark the main schedules page (you get there by clicking the schedules tab up top).  Also, this page is great for cell phone bookmarking when you need to find something out and you’re not around a computer.

Clemson baseball coach Jack Leggett is received by his team moments before each game.

BALONCESTO
The Tigers on the hardwood narrowly avoided boarding the failboat and pulled one out against Georgia Tech on the road.  Sorry again about not being on top of things this weekend, but you understand.  Life has important demands like drinking… shooting things in the countryside… and more drinking.  Big thanks to mflynn00 for hosting the live thread for us on the forums. Anyways, at one point we were down by fifteen but thankfully came back. This puts us up another spot in the AP (up to 12) but stayed at 12 in the Coaches Poll.  We’ve got Virginia Tech at home this Wednesday at 7:30PM and then we travel to Florida State to hopefully repay the favor this Saturday at 2PM.

JACOBY F… FORDE? (Is this in keeping with the gimmick?)
Still the fastest man on the planet. Well, not the fastest, but I bet you he could easily outrun a mob of those fast moving zombies from the Dawn of the Dead remake. Easily. And those fuckers were fast, too.

QUICK NOTE
If you haven’t checked out East Bound and Down on HBO like Chili suggested, go ahead and do so. You’re really missing out if you don’t catch this show before the HBO suits decide to be stupid.  Comes on Sunday nights at 10:30.

BASEBALL INBETWEENER

Posted by Willy Mac

Trey Delk struck out five before being relieved on Friday against the Charlotte 49ers.

In the top of the first, it looked like more of the same when one of Charlotte’s few biggun’s smacked one of Trey Delk’s fastballs to deep right center and beyond. The bottom half of the first told a different story as it kicked off an 8-0 run over the course of the game. The game ended at 8-3. A few notes to take a look at:

  • Trey Delk had a great outing sitting down five and only giving up 1 run and four hits in about 5 and a half innings.
  • The Tigers stole nine bases on the day and that’s the most since, well, check out the CUAD wrap up.  Tim Bourret knows.
  • The relief pitching did a very good job in keeping the margin large, only giving up two runs after subbing for Delk.
  • This is a very, very fundamentally sound baseball team that is very knowledgeable.  That’s a big statement for one game, but I think they have the talent and smarts to compete this year with the rest of the ACC… so forget what I said earlier.
  • Our game plan for this year is to out pitch the other team and get one run at a time.  Scoring parties are welcome but the Tigers seem to be more concerned
  • Addison Johnson (3/4, 3 Runs) and Kyle Parker (2/4, 1Run, 3 RBIs) had big days yesterday.  Hopefully they can mature into some reliable sticks for the team as the season progresses.
  • Look for another win today, but probably a little closer.  After checking the forecast, it’s a good bet that the game on Sunday might get rained out.
  • Trevor, your brother Jason Stolz had a decent game but I can tell he’s going to be a great player for our team.  If you want me to email some pics to you and yourn’s, shoot me an email at ‘dannyfordisgod -at- gmail -dot- com’

Clemson coach Jack Leggett and Addison Johnson both await a pitch as the Tigers pounced on the 49ers, 8-3.

Oliver Purnell must prepare for the Maryland game with caution.

The More You Know: In the opinion of their fans, Maryland has fallen flat on it’s face this year compared to years past. This being said, the Terps are still a scary team that has beaten some quality opponents in the form of Miami and Virginia Tech recently.  Maryland’s problem this season is that they ride their starters and cannot come off the bench very well.  That’s a problem that plays well into our scheme of a full court press and wearing teams down. They do rebound well which is something we’ve struggled with but their free throw percentage has been somewhat spotty.

Chili: OP is bound to have been putting his team through the ringer for their inexplicable loss at Virginia, and I trust that the rollercoaster Tigers will bounce back again and take care of business. I’d like to see the point guard play improve a bit, TO create more open shots for himself, and for Booker to be a focal port for the offense. If the Tigers do these things and can manage to cool down the streaking Terps, they’ll win this one.
Clemson 67, Maryland 62

Willy Mac: Maryland has played poorly in the past but have come around a bit here in the last two games.  I can only hope that Purnell has our team hungry and refocused after what can be considered an embarassing loss to Virginia.  Coupled with the loss from Florida State and we should look to eat the Terps alive.  We have to have solid play from our regular contributors as well as a more concerted effort off of the bench than has happened in recent performances.  I think we get it done though.
Clemson 76, Maryland 67
