WEEKEND BLOTTER

Posted by Block-C Staff

Here be the links and such

  • Trevor Booker has been selected for the USA men’s basketball team to play for us this coming July in the World University Games.  Trevor Booker: Huhmerrican.
  • Tim Bourret did a pretty bang up job on the 2008/09 Clemson Athletics Year-In-Review.  More like Tear’s-In-Review… amidointhisrite?!?!?  WAKA WAKA.
  • While most of the spotlight is on the QB battle between WILLY KORN and Kyle Parker, The Post & Courier tells us not to count out incoming freshman Tajh Boyd, who has his sights set on the starting spot. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
  • That Noel Johnson kid out of Fayetteville, Georgia is choosing between Clemson and LSU and will probably be doing it today.  We really need a guy like this.  Thankfully we can pick up one of the pieces that Southern Cal dropped.
  • If you’d have been reading and posting in the forums, you’d be on top of this post.  You’d tell me, “Willy Mac, you fool.  I know this already!”  Then we’d probably share an awkward laugh and halfway miss a high five as my ego takes a crushing blow… We even talk golf on the forums.  Go ahead and give it a try if you haven’t signed up already.  If you’re having problems signing up, shoot us an email.  If you’re a lurker, go ahead and feel free to post!

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON LINKAGE

“If Dabo Swinney and Billy Napier live up to their promise of getting the ball to their playmakers, Spiller could easily work his way onto this list. He’s a dangerous return threat, and might be the top receiving running back in the ACC. He holds 12 school records. But consider this: Spiller’s carries and the number of snaps he was in on decreased last year, and he finished with 629 rushing yards — the fewest of his career, and not exactly Heisman numbers. Dwyer, on the other hand, had 200 carries for 1,395 yards and 12 touchdowns.”

Heather, I like a lot of the things you write, but seriously?  I’m not trying to be a homer here but CJ was splitting significant time with a running back that will probably make an NFL roster this year. Granted we’ve got some great young running backs coming in to fill the shoes of James Davis but for all intents and purposes, Spiller will be our big offensive player this year.

  • The guys over at The Legacyx4 found a pretty interesting article written by an Indianapolis Colts blogger who was recently attacked by a hack writer for the major Indy newspaper.  Essentially, the writer attacked the blogger to try and substantiate his paycheck.  I gotta agree with the Indy blogger not because I myself am a blogger, but in reality any idiot that’s just in the area and is lucky enough to get a job with a newspaper is automatically labeled a local authority on whatever beat they write about.  Also, we’re not hindered at what we can and can’t say because we don’t have paying customers.  I don’t know, you decide…

Do you think sports blogs should carry any weight at all??

MONDAY NEWS FILLER

Posted by Willy Mac

Baseball

  • Weekend Results: Lost Friday, Lost Saturday, Won Sunday.  Schaus, Parker, and Paulsen continue to be the Tiger’s mainstay when we need a hit.  Casey Harman pitched six scoreless innings yesterday in our win.  Overall we played decently with a few exceptions both bad and good.
  • A thirteen game home stand (There’s one game played in Greenville in stand) begins this week with Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and South Carolina on Wednesday.  The weekend brings in Georgia Tech for a three game series.

Random bits

  • Jacoby Ford won the 100m in the ACC Championship.  The team also won the overall ACC Outdoor Championship. Clemson came in sixth overall.
  • Golf finished second in the ACC Tournament.
  • Dabo Swinney had his fantasy camp this past weekend.  It was discussed in the forums and Mogrits finally came through with a video of some of the action.  I can’t believe people actually paid money to do that.  Check around the 0:33 mark and then ask yourself, “Did that really just happen?

BRIEF FRIDAY NEWS AND NOTES

Posted by Willy Mac

Baseball

  • The Greenville News put out a filler piece on this weekend’s upcoming series against Miami, as did The State.
  • The implications of this series are huge.  No. 5 Miami (10-5 ACC, 24-8) is at the top of the Coastal division.  No. 20 Clemson (9-6 ACC, 21-11) is at the top of the Atlantic division.  Given Miami’s history of greatness in baseball, this will be no easy task even if it is a home series.
  • You can check out Miami’s AD preview of the game here. The Sunday noon game will be televised on CSS.  All three games will be radio broadcast by WCCP as always.
  • ***UPDATE*** – Here is the CUAD preview of the series.  Link.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Friday, April 10th, 6:30 P.M.
Probable Starters: Miami – LHP Chris Hernandez (3-2, 5.80 ERA) vs. Clemson – LHP Casey Harman (3-2, 3.82 ERA)
Saturday, April 11th, 6:30 P.M.
Probable Starters: Miami – RHP David Gutierrez (2-3, 2.48 ERA) vs. Clemson – LHP Chris Dwyer (3-2, 5.21 ERA)
Sunday, April 12th, Noon
Probable Starters: Miami – LHP Iden Nazario (4-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. Clemson – TBA

Jack Leggett and the Tigers are poised to face No. 5 Miami

Assorted Links Surplus Sale

  • Heather Dinich harps on the fact that the ACC continues to be a tough defensive conference year in and year out.  She claims that Clemson has and more than likely will continue to be a big part of that eqaution.
  • Jacoby Ford made the front page of the ACC’s official website as they are congratulating all their spring semester champions.
  • The CUAD has released their version of this weekend’s schedule.
  • The Block-C tailgate is official.  Check the thread here on the battle plan.
  • ***UPDATE*** – Here is a pdf version of the roster from the CUAD via the Greenville News that was floated along to me.  Link.
  • ***UPDATE*** – Here is the complete spring football guide for this year via the CUAD website.  Link.

ONLY 10 DOLLARS FOR A CULLEN SIG???

Posted by Willy Mac

User Ace from the forums tipped us off to the fact that a few thousand people on facebook (myself included) have been invited to an event where you can get an autograph from Cullen Harper and/or Aaron Kelly the day of the spring game near the frame shop downtown.  So, I looked at it to see what it was about and my jaw dropped when I read this in the description:

$10 per autograph for both Aaron and Cullen…
You can get any item signed or photos will be provided.

Really?  Ten bucks to get Cullen to sign something for me?  Gee Cullen, you’ve finally bought into the fact that there’s not an NFL team out there that believes in you and you’re trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of the Clemson fans??  I wonder, hmm.  Hey Cullen, I’ve got some pictures here that I’d like you to sign for free…

See, I’d like you to sign these for free because each one of those pictures cost me about $50 a pop.  That last one was upwards of $70 I think.  On top of that, there are plenty of other times you’ve ruined my day, cost me money, or nearly put me into a red bull/rage induced stroke in front of my friends and family members.  To add to that, when you play in a bowl game or an away game you never think about the people like me that spend money, time, and effort to come and see you flop around a patch of grass like a fish out of water all the while hoping that one of your errant duck passes might actually find someone in the end zone, or, at least the side lines when you’re about to be sacked.  The nerve of Cullen Harper to do this is unbelievable. Ten bucks?  How much for a polaroid, Ram Jam?

MONDAY NOTES

While you were out speed walking this weekend, we were out with Mr. T hunting your ass down:

Baseball stuff

  • The weekend breakdown went as follows: We lost on Friday 13-1, then we won both games of a double header on Saturday.  This is pretty good considering most of our experienced players missed the games due to injury or other commitments. Also you have to factor in the fact that the Eagles are a much improved squad from last year as they have already taken 2/3 from FSU in Tallahassee.
  • We’re playing in Athens against Georgia at 7pm Tuesday night.  Then we bring it back to Doug Kingsmore to play them again at 7pm on Wednesday.
  • This weekend we play Duke in a three game series at home starting with the 6:30pm game on Friday night.

OMIGOD FOOTBALL

  • We had a lot of guys show out this weekend on the football field. Our running backs netted over 200 yards and Willy Korn and Kyle Parker combined for five touchdowns.  Again, stats at this point are meaningless but they’re fun aren’t they?
  • The quarterback battle remains close between Korn and Parker. Swinney seems to be factoring every aspect of their game play, including the way they react and play in wet conditions.
  • Other standouts from this weekend include Chad Diehl, Jamie Cumbie, DeAndre McDaniel, Tig Willard, Marcus Gilchrist, and Tarik Rollins.  The wide receivers stepped up their roles somewhat, but rumor has it that the coaches still aren’t pleased.
  • Block-C is trying to put together a tailgate for the spring game.  Check back here or the forums.  We’ll keep you updated but suggestions are welcome.
