Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reading some of the archived posts while listening to a lot of Sam Cooke and Bill Withers on pandora and getting all teary eyed about how far things have come since DFIG hit blogger five years ago. What a great and awesome experience this has been.
This was a mutual decision from Chili and I because frankly, we’ve just grown out of it I guess. At least that’s my true reason. Thank you to all of you guys for all the support, laughs, and fun times over the past few years. I’d definitely still like to communicate/meet/hang out with you guys. Block-C was a big part of my life that I really enjoyed and it helped me grow as a person. We built a great online community together and I’m really proud of all that we did. NO HOMO.

Well, it’s no surprise that Block-C has slowed down a lot lately. I had always said I never wanted this to be a blog that just sort of trailed off and ended like it’s about to, but a lot of things have changed and Willy Mac and I just have too much shit on our plate (literally, we’re super into scatophagy). He’s got a wife and a life and all that sort of shit, and I’m in goddamned China. Also, the blog has always been sort of a point of contention between me and Willy Mac. Arguments, egotistical shit, bitching about the direction of the site, that sort of thing. Frankly we’re better friends without the blog, so there’s that. I have to give a huge thanks to all our readers who’ve been with us from the beginning, even Tom. We wouldn’t have kept this up for as long as we have without you.
I’d rather end this thing than continue to do it half-assed. If I had my druthers, I’d just post dick jokes, EKRs, Dab-O-Meters, and other bits on a site and not have to worry about running it or doing news posts or any of the Xs and Os shit I really don’t care about. Maybe I’ll find another site to put stuff on, who knows. Of course, it won’t be the same. We started DFIG in order to provide a perspective on Clemson football that wasn’t available on Tigernet, TI, or any of the extant Clemson blogs out there. I still feel like our unique take on things isn’t duplicated anywhere else in the Clemson blogosphere (if you’ll allow me to use the term blogosphere) and I can only hope that some young bucks will come along and carry the torch from here on out. We were always protective of our ability to produce whatever content we wanted, when we wanted. We turned down numerous offers from big blog conglomerates because we were always afraid of anyone telling us what to do or fucking with our shit. In short, we did it our way, for better or worse.

To say that this blog was a much-needed relief from the idiots eating cheetos and posting lunatic rantings from their parents’ basements over there on tnet is an understatement – this blog was consistently fantastic. knifedogisgod kinda takes the thing a little too far in my opinion, and makes it a site about a Block-C meme rather than about Clemson. I’m all for the Block C, Danny Ford, Frank Howard and his rock and all, and love the way y’all covered it, but I’m not going to invest much time in a site that covers how you covered it.

Big fan of the site, I’ve been reading block-c since the dannyfordisgod.com banner at Gameday forever and a day ago. I’ve kept reading because I live in Michigan now, and it’s hard to keep up with Clemson football when your 800 miles away. I’ve always enjoyed the high quality writing you guys have done here in the past. That being said, I’ve checked out sportaholics and the orangekoolaide, and no offense to the guys that put in hard work on those sites, but they blow. Hard. I can’t even stand to stare at the orange koolaid 1) for the gay name and 2) for the horrible background. Block-C was a gem, and I’m sad to see it go. Don’t leave me with these hacks!

@ 59. Richman. Rich, Guess I’ll start with a positive and thank you for the feedback in the email you sent in addition to your posting here. Before I address your specific issues I’d like to say that if you don’t like what we do and you’re gonna put us down at least offer some solutions. We’ve made it clear that we don’t possess Chilli and Willy-Mac’s creativity, but we’re game-on to try in order to give Block-C’s membership a place to still gather and have fun sounding off. That being said, I have a few points to make about your issues both here on Block-C and in your email.
- The color purple (Our school color, not Oprah’s sorry-ass introduction to the world) isn’t necessarily my favorite, but it is one of our school colors, part of our history, and since we’re “Real Clemson Supporters” and we like it, we’re gonna keep it.
- The background. My son took that photo at his very first Clemson game and did the photo-shopping when he was 15, so it means something to us and we’re gonna keep it.
- The site’s name. We started with a generic name of “Knifedog is God” to get things started and asked for inputs. All you offered was “Get something with a ring” and something that pisses off shamecock nation.” Thanks for trying to get the wheels turning with the brainstorming session, but specific names would be more helpful and no one offered anything better, so we’re gonna keep it. FYI, you said to get something that would make people remember us, I’ll bet most folks will remember our name and what we’re about.
- You said you’d look at changing a few more things. What things?
- As for our site blowing hard, having a gay name, and us being hacks, you’re welcome to your opinion, because we’ve invited everyone to provide inputs and even join our team of writers and we’ve gotten far more positive than negative feedback. Some folks didn’t like Knifedog, we listened and changed it, so all inputs are welcome, even yours. No Homo.
Finally, the site is a work in progress and my son set it up for everyone to have fun and try to keep the Block-C spirit alive. He’s proud of it and works hard to give everyone something to enjoy, and I’m proud of it and will do my best to help him keep it going. If no one else wants to participate or read what we write, well, at least we put the energy into trying and that’s more than most can say, to include you, so go fuck yourself…you were expecting that, so I obliged. I haven’t read Sportaholics, but I’m gonna check it out thanks to you. Also, I think Mogrits may be working on something, so keep your eye out for that. Oh, and thanks for ending your email with a positive by saying “Props for starting up a site though.” Enjoy Michigan my friend and GO TIGERS!

I appreciate your candidness and willingness to accept suggestions. I cringed when I read @59′s comment in a “Whoah dude that’s harsh” way. I never intended to come off that way earlier and hope I didn’t. (No homo).
All that being said… we needed Block-C today more than anything for witty commentary on the G.A. Mangus incident today. Tigernet’s official stance is “mum’s the word”, their forum posts about it are sophomoric (to be charitable). I’m sure Willy and Chili both ruminated on dozens of potential photoshops for the occasion but just couldn’t bring themselves to produce one. Anything, and I mean most anything those boys had posted would have hit edsbs and then eventually deadspin. Those kind of hits are good for Block-C and good for Clemson even if the recurring theme/meme at edsbs is “f*#k Clemson”.
