EA Sports and ESPN’s Sportsnation are doing an “NCAA Football Traditions” bracket-style competition. Clemson’s tradition of rubbing Howard’s Rock and “Running Down the Hill” are the 3 Seed and beat USC (the Real one, of course) in the 1st Round. The 2nd Round is under way and has Clemson pitted against Michigan and their overrated “Jump up and hit that sign thingy” that they do. Right now, the vote is really close, so click on this link and vote for Clemson (or Michigan if you are a jerk). Do it or we will find you!

According to CBSSports.com, Clemson ranks number one in their APR (Academic Progress Report) rankings for college football. Apparently CBS took the APR averages of a bunch of Division I Schools (or FBS for the dorks who like to be politically correct) and made some formula in which Clemson got a score of 988 out of a possible 1,000.
Is this a good thing? Yes and no. It looks good for the school and the program. It shows that Clemson puts a high priority on their football players’ grades. And it shows that Clemson graduates their players. However, it also shows that the highly touted prospects that do come to Clemson don’t exactly develop into the “3-year and done” kind of prospects. While you do want to see Clemson’s players stay all four years of their eligibility, it also isn’t necessarily a bad thing when they leave after 3 years, because that means they lived up to their hype (and/or are Jamie “Fumblerooskie” Harper, who leaves after 3 years after not accomplishing much) and developed into the players that they should be.
Look at it this way – would you recruit 4-Star Prospect Brandon Ford (yeah, he apparently plays for Clemson) knowing he wouldn’t be productive but would stay for all four years? Or would you rather have 4-Star Prospect Alshon Jeffery who is considered one of the best WR’s in the country but will only be at your school for three years (yes Gamecock fans, you have a zero percent chance of him sticking around that hellhole another season)? Exactly, you would take Alshon 10 times out of 10.
In other words, it may look great that Clemson has a high APR, but wouldn’t you rather see the players live up to their athletic hype and flunk a couple classes now and again over them making straight A’s and going 7-6 again? But still, at least Clemson is number one is something, that has to count, right?

Clemson Baseball was hosting their own NCAA Regional. They won their first two games and only needed one more win to move on to the Super Regional. They even had a lead late in the first game against Connecticut on Sunday. But then they went and blew that lead, lost on a walk-off hit, then promptly got destroyed (like 14-1 destroyed) in the 2nd and deciding game of their own Regional and their season is now over. The only good news is that it wasn’t Sakerlina that took them out this season. I guess we should have all seen this coming considering how bad they looked at the beginning of the season, but that late season push gave us false hope. Well, it doesn’t matter now, they still had a good season, it just didn’t end how we all had hoped. Let’s just hope that Connecticut keeps their hot bats alive and knocks off the Gamecocks.

Hey there autobots. Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I finished my masters program at Clemson this semester and, two days after graduation, moved to China. I’m necessarily assuming that you care or that you don’t, just saying what’s up. I’m going to try to do what I can to post a bit more often (which would be at all). I damned near forgot the name of the site. RedParkerisLord?
Every Wednesday after work my architecture firm gets together and plays basketball at a nearby court as part of a team building/socializing effort. Since I arrived over two weeks ago I’ve had coworkers asking me to join them, and the other day I finally obliged them.
- There were lots of time-outs for eyeglasses falling off.
- The only thing that blocked more shots than me was the underside of the rim.
- I am beginning to think you get promoted by balling out. My boss, 10 years older than the rest of the firm, dominated the court, and not because we let him. Another manager was draining jumpers from JJ Redick range, while yet another was the distributor in charge, doling out assists like hot steamed dumplings.
- Organized basketball is huge in China and there are some very skilled players, however it seemed as if many of my teammates/opponents learned by watching Kobe and have tried to imitate him but lack the necessary uh the necessary athletic means for said moves. The result is usually 50% of an awesome move and 50% flailing hilarity, although sometimes the moves are pulled off spectacularly.
That’s all for now, more on something relating to Clemson sports or whatever when I get to it. I love you all.
Hugs,
Chili
PS You know what I ate today? Noodles.
