Missouri 86, Clemson 78

Just fucking enough, Purnell. Yes, I’m happy we made it to the NCAA Tournament 3 years in a row, but I’m overwhelmingly pissed at another absolutely pathetic showing in the postseason. Admittedly this was another matchup where we faced a seed perhaps a bit better than advertised (Villanova being underranked two years ago comes to mind), but the Tigers looked completely inept at ballhandling throughout the game and rushed a bunch of shit shots to the basket in the latter end of the 2nd half. I’d just love to see Purnell get angry at the team, or accurately prepare them for postseason play, or draw up some effective offensive plays under pressure, or WIN A FUCKING POSTSEASON GAME. As for me, I don’t see what’s there to give a shit about next time Clemson basketball season rolls around, you know it’s just going to end in flailing ineptitude.

OP is a terrible gameday coach. No sense of urgency in the last 5 minutes and he has that “I don’t give a damn” smerk on his face

I’m going to kick off the bitching. That was the most favorable draw we’ve had yet, maybe last year’s Michigan team was worse, who cares. Why in the hell do we have big men consistently (Grant, Devin Booker, Sykes, Perry, etc.) that have no – how do you say it – basketball skills??? They can dunk and….block shots?? Whoever the ACC scout was that said we have athletes but not basketball players was exactly right. We were an NIT team masquerading as an NCAA team all year. Purnell’s future at Clemson depends solely on the rising sophomore class. Johnson is the only one that looks like he has a future; Milton Jennings looks like absolute shit. He must have won some kind of scratch off game on a pack of McNuggets to get in the McDonald’s All-American game last year, fuck. Check his ass out on YouTube sometime getting posterized at the McDonald’s AA game practices sometime…

No way we win 20 games next year with what we have coming back and even if we do I think Purnell’s inability to win a tournament game is on him at this point – I was up in the air until this season but now I’m moving to the ‘can’t win the big one’ camp on him. He’s done a good job here but it may be reaching a Tommy Bowden point in that it might be time to start seeing who can take us the rest of the way. However, I don’t have much faith in TDP to have an ‘exhaustive’ search for the ‘best candidate’….

Finally, if Devin Booker ever shoots another 3-pointer in his career at Clemson someone needs to revoke his scholarship and punch him in the balls. WTF was that????

I didn’t watch the game. I went mountain biking instead. I picked us to lose in my bracket. To steal a quote from “Walk Hard”

“It’s not that I don’t believe in you, Clemson Basketball-I do. I just know you’re going to fail.”

I don’t really care about basketball all that much, and I consequently won’t get worked up about this, but if a Clemson futbaw coach had amassed as long and unblemished record of late-season failure as Purnell, I’d be calling for his head.

I flew my Clemson flags down I-270 and 70 this morning. I knew the game was not at Little John, but I thought this might be different. We just might can win this one. So I put my flags on my car, drove to work and was excited. How does Clemson repay me. By making me look like a fucking dick in front of my girl friends family who all went to Missouri. Why the FUCK isnt football here yet.

@6 agree 100%. Basketball sucks. Don’t follow. But from the looks of this, I’d say we’re not down with the OPP anymore?

i quit watching clemson bb last year. I can only handle one under achieving team.

I drove to work in blizzard conditions a month ago and used my extra day off to watch this game. What a shit-fest. Such a disappointment in almost every phase of the game…god, was it just over year ago that Clemson humiliated Evil Duke? This was a HUGE step back for the program. BLEARGH! Pisses me off.

I remember the bad years with Sharon Wright and company. I can tell the usuck fans in the office we made it they didn’t and that there basketball team is second rate, but we are not much better, we backed into the tournament losing to wake and state. I was not surprised with this loss. I try to stay away from basketball but I have gotten into it since we almost beat UNC in the ACC championship game. I do not think this team will fair to good next year, we have mostly role players on the team, we need a proven scorer. I think booker is good but when he is triple teamed nobody seems to step up and provide a second option consistently.

    Purnell=Tommy Bowden

Glad he sat Young early in the second half. Young was the only one who was hot in the first half. I thought the Mizzou was very physical and got away with a lot of stuff under the basket and we were afraid to keep going inside. When we did drive we missed a crap load of short shots

Thank God we lost so I don’t have to wait for the ass beating against WV on Sunday.

  13. 13flacctNo Gravatar on Mar 20, 2010 at 9:35 am:

Devon Booker is mentally retarded, Dante Hill can’t shoot and is overrated on defense, Noel Johnson might be a basketball player but it’s too early to tell.

Milton Jennings is the worst basketball player I think I’ve seen on our team. At the beginning of the year I was all like “gee, a 5 star recruit to replace the uncoordinated and sometimes pathetic Raymond Sykes, this is gonna be teh awesome!!. Jennings plays like Sykes would if he were white, a pussy, blind, and even less talented. I guess on a positive note from looking at Jennings people can’t say Purnell recruits good athletes not good basketball players. Jennings is the shittiest athlete in the conference.

Way to pull a Rob Spence in the 2nd half there Purnell by benching Young to start the half. Young was the only player actually playing in the first half and you fucking bench him? I don’t give a shit if he isn’t the starter or if you were gonna sub him in quickly. The dude needed to be on the floor early in the second half.

Great summation, Flaact. I wish I had watched the game with you; I bet you were throwing stuff around the room. That game…I’m still pissed off.

BTW, that “derp” graphic is pretty damn funny.

  15. 15NotTop20No Gravatar on Mar 23, 2010 at 3:40 am:

    Ok…

I’m going to throw this out there, I know more about the game of basketball than just about all of you. Just like you know more about the game of football than me.

Anyone who thinks that we had an NCAA tournament team this year is retarded. Losing three starters and making it back is an OVER ACHIEVEMENT. I was shocked that we were able to make it in with Stitt being banged up… but we can thank the rest of the ACC for sucking just enough for us to get by.

On to the hating of OP…. Yes, I understand we’re hitting a wall. We can’t get by the first round. I get it, its frustrating. But you can’t possibly think the fact that we’re CLEMSON has nothing to do with it. Meaning, we are not that talented. Yes, OP is responsible for recruiting the talent. But guess what, Clemson is the hardest school to recruit for in the ACC. Period. But he is making progress.

Clemson is a Football school located in the state that doesn’t produce D.1 basketball talent. Clemson is not well known enough (yet) to pull talent from other regions.

Of course winning can change that. And if you’ve been asleep the past 7 years, you’ve noticed it is changing. We’re you expecting a championship run??? You say that you’re happy we’ve made it three times in a row, but you are obviously not at all.

UNC, UCLA, UCONN, and Indiana would all have loved the opportunity to blow it like we did.

If you think getting rid of Purnell is the answer, you do not think logically, or just know absolutely nothing about basketball.

  16. 16WillyDNo Gravatar on Mar 23, 2010 at 7:39 am:

Purnell brings in good recruits and his players play hard for him. That adds up to his proven track record as a program builder as a head coach. It is however pretty clear that he is not an X’s and O’s guy, pretty much putting all his eggs in the press basket and struggling to set up an efficient half-court offense or sound half-court defense. I know Clemson has had a defensive reputation under Purnell, but it’s purely based on our press, once times are in the half court we repeatedly get abused for layups. To me the solution is to bring in an assistant coach who is an X and O guru and can teach our guys how to actually run a half-court offense, rather than getting rid of Purnell.
