CJ SPILLER NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE YEAR

CJ Spiller was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year today by the league offices in Greensboro. Spiller led all players with 29 out of 40 votes. GT’s Josh Nesbitt accounted for 8 POTY votes. Unfortunately, however, CJ missed the final cut for the Walter Camp Award. Comparatively mediocre showings against UVA and Sakerlina will do that to a guy. CJ’s got two more games in college, let’s hope he knocks the bottom out of em.

Congratulations, CJ!

Complete voting went as follows:

2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Voting

C.J. Spiller, RB-SPC, Clemson (29)
Josh Nesbitt, QB, Georgia Tech (8)
Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech (2)
Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech (1)

2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year Voting

C.J. Spiller, RB-SPC, Clemson (24)
Josh Nesbitt, QB, Georgia Tech (10)
Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech (4)
Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech (1)
Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State (1)

2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year Voting

Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech (21)
Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina (7)
DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson (7)
Nate Collins, DT, Virginia (1)
Quan Sturdivant, LB, North Carolina (1)

No wonder the ACC is a joke.

@1 he actually tied for 2nd.

Congratulations to Spiller, and I hope he gets an invite to the Heisman ceremony after blowing up GT in the ACCCG. I’m glad McDaniel was even mentioned in the voting for ACC DPOY. DeA.McD. will make an NFL team very happy one day.

Amen @ 3. I hate losing to the yardbuzzards but this team still could finish strong and get 10 wins and an ACC title. I do believe that in 1987 Danny Ford lost in Columbia by 13 points after winning the ACC. It wasn’t the end of the world then and the loss last Saturday won’t be either. I just don’t get fans that jump to conclusions and say that we will be horrible next year. I see alot of potential in our younger guys, and you just know that some of those redshirts are going to turn out to be the next stars. We just have to find Ellington a suitable backfield partner because Jamie Harper is the biggest disappointment EVER.

@ 3..Harper has indeed been a huge disappointment so far, but I’m not ready to say he’s a complete bust. I think the right work ethic on his part could make him a star in college football. He’s got the talent, I just don’t get that he has the will so far. Maybe knowing he could be the guy next year will get him off his ass. Of course, they gotta teach him not to fumble.

@4,5 I think Harper will develop. The fumbles are pretty ridiculous, once those are out of the way everything will be copacetic. Anybody who has watched him in preseason has seen him be an absolute beast, even against our defense. He needs to go from being a practice all-star to an actual one. Nobody can predict whether or not that’ll happen, but the talent is there.

Harper has improved allot this year. When he runs straight ahead he looks as good as advertised. He has done that most of the time the second half of the season. Obviously he didn’t do that last game. But, in his defense SCAR went right thru our OL like a knife thru hot butter all day. Kyle Parker ran for his life, all day and when he didn’t our receivers were running around like the 3 stooges. Everyone wants to know why the wildcat and pretty much any form of QB run work so well, our LB’s are not playing good at all. But I still say we beat Tech, that is what is important this year.

Harper would be a stud if he had an rb coach worth a damn.

Harper played pretty well this year. He does need some coaching, just like the rest of the RB’s. I thought early this year even CJ seemed to be running up the ass of the OL and wasn’t a patient runner.
Back to Harper, it just seems that he picks the most inopportune times to fumble the goddamn ball. I wanted to nail it to his fucking hand on Saturday.

Swinney just annouced that CJ’s #28 will be retired next year. http://twitter.com/aimclemson

  11. 11MogritsNo Gravatar on Dec 2, 2009 at 10:47 pm:

@10: Retiring his number? Who is Swinney to retire a number? I get, appreciate and downright adore what Spiller has done for this team but who is Swinney to be retiring numbers?

Thanks for nothing, Rob Spence. Had you pulled your head out of your ass just once maybe you could have used Spiller for the previous 3 yrs and I wouldn’t question retiring his number. As it is, 28 will likely always be associated with Spiller because it’s not a popular number like a 57 or 51 but still this is too much. Do not attempt to retire his number.

What was Terry Allen’s number? 21? Retire that one instead.

DMAC SHOULD PLAY ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE IN TAMPA SO HE CAN SHOW DERRICK MORGAN WHO IS RLY #1. MMMMMMM PANCAKES.

NO I CAN’T STOP YELLIN, CUZ THAT’S HOW I TALK.

I don’t think Harper would be seen as being a bust if he hadn’t have been so highly ranked coming out of high school. He can be a good one, he’s only a sophomore. Ellington has looked better though so far. My only knock on Harper is he runs softer than CJ or Ellington but outweighs them by what, 30-40 lbs? He needs to be a power back instead of a finesse back in a power body. That being said I don’t think any of us would like to go against him in Oklahoma….

@ 11: Absolutely THANKS FOR NOTHING, Rob Spence. Had Davis, Spiller, Ford, Grisham, Kelly, and Palmer at his disposal and really squandered that. I still get pissed at the year we had Proctor at QB. Despite Proctor not being too good, we should have steamrolled the ACC that year with that OL and backfield…especially that bullshit loss to SC that year, too.

Harper just needs to stop fumbling and learn to not turn around and try and back over people at first contact.

Well shiver me timbers…they really are retiring CJs number.
