NCSU WRAPUP

Clemson 43, NC State 23

Clemson_43__N.C._State_23___11.14.09_U_oecomF_002.embedded.prod_affiliate.156

Clemson moved to number 19 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and 18 in the AP Poll with a 20 point thrashing of NC State made that close only by a garbage NCSU touchdown with three seconds left on the clock.

FACTOIDS DENOTED BY DASHES PRIOR TO SENTENCES

- CJ Spiller scored a TD rushing, receiving, and passing becoming the first Tiger in history to score those three ways in one game. He also reportedly invented a new way of scoring a touchdown the name of which cannot be spoken by the human tongue. CJ had 158 all-purpose yards, making his season total 1,952 yards, eclipsing Derrick Hamilton’s old record.

- Thomas Austin was injured late in the 3rd quarter in what is being described as a lower leg injury. He did not return.  This Spartanburg Herald-Journal article has no specifics, but we’re hearing that it is an ankle sprain and he should be ready for the UVa game.

- Spencer Benton missed two extra points. I’m pretty low tolerance when it comes to kickers, and it baffles me how we have two highly regarded kickers in Benton and Richard Jackson and neither of them can kick worth a damn. Admittedly there have been some snap issues that need to be ironed out, but nonetheless perfectly snapped and held balls are also being flung into the air like a retard out of a circus cannon. Actually, I think a cannontard would be fairly graceful, so scratch that. The Greenville News aptly states the situation thusly:

At halftime, Swinney said placekicker Spencer Benton, a redshirt freshman, “would have been the player of the game.”

As it turned out, by the time the Tigers scored their final touchdown on a 69-yard run by Jamie Harper with 8:42 left in the game, Swinney had Benton on the sidelines and inserted Richard Jackson for the final extra point.

That pretty much summarized the Clemson placekicking issues.

Our main man Greg Wallace over at the Anderson Indpendent-Mail has some good info on the kicking misery here.

Spiller pretty much became a living legend…And hopefully Austin and Bowers will be ready to terrorize UVA and Sakerlina Shamecocks! All in all awesome game at State and I’m ready to hit the Valley this Saturday!!!

This actually makes me miss Jad Dean. Would love to have Mark Bucholz back too. If Spencer and Richard are so fucking mentally fragile that they can’t kick a god damn extra point, then maybe we should let them be ballboys and let Dawson Zimmerman handle all kickoffs, punts, field goals, and extra points. Honestly…there is nothing worse than a kicker who can’t kick. That’s your only fucking job and if you can’t do it then you might as well be dirt.

    don’t bother reading.

goddamn tom obrien and his terrible, ungraceful, shit-filled fans. i always thought ncstate fans weren’t that bad, but i am filled with unparalleled hatred for their entire fan base, even if that does include a few family members. no, i don’t hate my cousins/uncles/aunts, etc, but they will hear about it and i will tell them that i have lost all respect for their kind.

ncstate fans are pure shit. i’m a fucking graduate student at state and i’m still saying this. goddamn i’m pissed. got heckled and taunted and went to the game covered in beer foam just from walking to the stadium. those assholes completely trashed the entire state fairgrounds. there was trash all over the fucking place. not just beer cans, but just random trash spread all over the fucking place. complete lack of tailgating etiquette. looked like a goddamn landfill. i fucking hate ncstate fans.

that, and the fact that tom obrien used his timeouts and marched down the field on our defensive scrubs to score an absolutely meaningless touchdown with a drive that started with a fucking minute on the clock. then he went for 2. then he tried a fucking onside kick. fucking useless piece of shit. complete lack of respect for the game of football if you are going to do that bullshit. that is just as bad as going for 2 and trying an onside kick with a 26 point lead. goddammit goddammit goddammit.

my girlfriend had made a bet that clemson would cover a 21 point spread. then ncstate did that bullshit. THOSE POINTS DON’T FUCKING COUNT.

final score: clemson 43, ncstate 17.

    end rant.

@3 Wow, now that was a rant. Yeah, after they went for 2 there was 0:03 left on the clock and I was praying for them to kick to Spiller and have him run it back on their sorry asses to end the game. Then they did that onside kick. I like to think that he meant it to be a full kick, but the thought of kicking to Spiller scared him into another display like that 6 yard punt from their own 20. They were pretty upset about that no-fumble call and probably trying to make themselves feel better.

@3: Great rant….I, for one, love the emotion and true hatred exhibited. Is it just me, or is Russell Wilson overhyped as hell? I have only watched him against USC, us, and then off-and-on in other games and I have just not been able to figure out why he’s supposed to be such a great QB. He looks like he could be a running threat but just won’t do it and floats alot of passes; just my opinion from limited viewings of him.

    I really shouldn’t have read Andrew’s rant.

I was at the game, sat in an NC State section and had nary a problem. I wasn’t even bothered by NCSU trying to go for points at the end of the game — their scrubs against ours. I was bothered that their scrubs, led by the goofy lookin’ young Glennon kid, were able to march down the field so easily.

I have never visited NC State and it made me SICK to listen to ALL the NC State fans making the National Anthem about themselves. Yelling “RED” in the middle of the song and chanting “Go Pack” before the end of our Country’s Anthem…IT IS DEPLORABLE! They have twisted the Anthem into an event were they think of themselves instead of reflecting on all the sacrifices which have been made for our Country. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

    Am I off base here?

This kicking thing is gonna fuck us if we don’t get it fixed. In our three losses, we missed kicks in all of them, that had they been good, would have changed the outcome of the games. I wasn’t that mad at the time, it sucks when a kicker misses a 40-50 yard kick, but it happens. This shit with the extra points is bush league.

There’s no reason to miss an xp. Knee-jerk reaction here: Jackson should lose his scholarship if he misses another. If he can’t do the easiest job he has, he is as useless as a lollipop dipped in shit.

I’ll tell you what pisses me off. The other day I was surfing the internet and came across an article call “Has Oprah gone Too Far?” Basically she had a woman on there who had got her face ripped off by a monkey and showed her face. Too far are you fucking kidding me? I’m quite sure the monkey would agree that you can never see too much of this sort of thing on TV. I tell you who I feel sorry for, the fucking monkey. He is just sitting there minding his own business and her comes some bitch who decides to fuck with him. Then guess what? Surprise Surprise, he reaches over and rips off her face. Now people want to judge the monkey for fucks sakes? I think they should show the damn thing again and entitle it, “This is what happens when you fuck with the monkey BITCH”. To make for further entertainment I think she should get a little surprise visit from… wait for it, you guessed it, little Mr Monkey. Now that would be entertainment the whole family could enjoy!

I just like how in the picture above, one NCSU player is trying to tackle CJ by his arm band, and the other NCSU player is tackling his teammate trying to make the arm band tackle. But yeah, I don’t have a problem with them going for points late in the game, both teams were playing their scrubs, so why not let them get some game experience and see if they can put together a last minute drive. If it was their starters against our two’s, then I would have a problem with it. But I would be pissed if I had bet on Clemson covering.

my 2 cents on the State fans. They suck. 12 years ago (or thereabouts) I was there as a student and got spit at, hit and nearly carried out of the stadium if it weren’t for a few friends who kept me from returning the favors to the State fans. They are the worst bunch of unmannered rednecks that I’ve had the pleasure of watching football with, INCLUDING the gamecock fans. Now – that’s sad!
