Special teams: Clemson

Intangibles: errr….. Clemson. Also, as we reported on Twitter months ago, Clemson will be decked in all orange, Coastal in all black, to make for a delightful Halloween abomination.

Our Panel of  Former CIA Operatives Says:

Willy Mac: I really shouldn’t waste your time with a Coastal Carolina preview. So I’m not. What I am going to do is tell you about my favorite sandwich. Now, I enjoy a good sub sandwich, but not just any sub sandwich. I’m not really a fan of Subway because there is just so much that can go wrong. I tend to like places like Beezer’s. It’s a damned shame that the place went out of business because it was one of the best. I think it’s the bread that made it really tasty. Usually I really enjoy a sub with assorted Italian meats and some cheddar cheese, but when it came to Beezer’s it was a half tuna with lettuce. A cookie and coke were also a necessity as well. Damn. What a meal at 3am. I think the one in Columbia closed down too. What a shame. Now I go with Jimmy John’s in downtown Greenville because they make good Italian meat subs but they’ve got too many rules. Just make the fucking sandwiches to order instead of telling me the actual name of what I ordered. Punch it in your machine and shut up.

Beezer’s 48, Jimmy John’s 9

Chili: Hmm… it’s sort of a struggle to come up with something to say about this game. I’m not going to lie and pretend I’ve done any research on the matchup or the Chanticleers. I’m going to assume the Tigers have tried hard to avoid a letdown after the Miami victory and that Coastal will come into this game with everything they’ve got, which is only enough to rate them 101st out of 118 D-1AA teams in terms of scoring at 16 points a game. These two mentalities will clash in Death Valley and Clemson will easily thump Coastal. I think maybe the Tigers let back on the throttle a little bit in the second half. Additionally, any desire to see CJ Spiller run wild all day should be quashed as Dabo had said earlier in the week that he hopes that Clemson will be up enough at the half to give Spiller plenty of rest. Yeah we’ll probably beat Coastal by more, but I’m just going on precedent here.

Clemson 35, Coastal Carolina 0

NOM NOM subs with cookie and a coke. I like how I read the preview and the only thing I came away with was sandwiches.

I agree; the bread is super important for making a great sandwich. Boar’s head meats from the grocery store deli also make for one helluva good sandwich, but that’s assuming you have time to make one before you die from starvation (WANT…NOW!) That’s when you bitchslap the guy at Jimmy John’s and tell him to get back to sandwich makin’ and quit dreaming about Beezer’s.

@ Willy Mac. I was sad to see Beezer’s closed the last time I visited. My go-to was the “Double-something or other” at Beezer’s. Ham and Turkey with provolone, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Short and simple. The sandwich cost like $2.50 or something stupidly low. Jimmy Johns has something exactly like it, but it’s like $4 more than it’s counterpart at Beezer’s.

  3. 3tygeNo Gravatar on Oct 30, 2009 at 12:10 pm:

The Godfather at Beezers for $4.50 was the best deal in Clemson. Billy’s BBQ sandwich was also solid with some banana peppers. Wait… we have a football game this weekend?

    Beezer’s was gross.

Jersey Mike’s is so much better.

@4 Agreed. 1000 Cocktails to you sir

Am I the only one who would’ve appreciated a late-night window at Ancheaux’s?

  7. 7Willy MacNo Gravatar on Oct 30, 2009 at 2:59 pm:

@4 – I knew the people that worked there, so if it was a slow night they usually let me make it myself. Oh, and I don’t trust a) the opinion of someone who’s too lazy to gravitate and b) just your opinion in general. You’re fickle and hard to please.

  8. 8sharpNo Gravatar on Oct 30, 2009 at 3:03 pm:

I’m a Jersey Mike’s or Firehouse guy, but they’re ridiculously overpriced. However, I definitely hit Beezer’s a time or two post DT shenanigans.

God the late night Beezer’s delivery people saw some weird shit.

By the way clemsontigers.com has their Spiller for Heisman website up and running.

It looks completely amateurish or at least circa 1996 website technology. I guess I was expecting too much.

back to the football game…FUCK mother nature and her obvious hatred for all things Clemson.

@13 – Seriously. It’s rained at every home game this year now. I made an awesome cornhole set before the season started, and I’ve only gotten to play with it at the MTSU game. Ridiculous.

  15. 15Willy MacNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 8:39 am:

Ok so yeah, back to sandwiches, I do like a firehouse but they’re god awful for you. I’m kind of surprised that nobody has mentioned Duke’s in Greenville. Didn’t do well in Clemson cause they didn’t follow the original formula.

  16. 16ClemNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 11:00 am:

Jersey Mikes reminds me of the subs you got from Lil Dino’s. Good stuff though.

  17. 17thedabokoolaidNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 11:47 am:

@15, do you like jersey mikes?

  18. 18Bag Of DicksNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 11:47 am:

@15 – Dukes? Really? If you’re going to mention a sandwich company in Greenville go with Greenfield’s Deli or even Publix Sammiches (with Boarshead meat). Duke’s is on par with high school cafeteria sandwiches.

The best sub in the world was at Sub Station 2, but I think those are all closed now, and regardless, there aren’t any here in PA. There’s a place up here called Primo Hoagies and they are really good, but they just can’t get the lettuce, tomato and onion sliced right like SS2 could. Plus, everyone up here calls subs “hoagies” which is just weird.

  20. 20Magic HoboNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 2:20 pm:

    @19

Sub Station II is still open, so if you’re ever as far south as Blacksburg, VA you can get your fix.

@20, That’s CRAZY! I had no idea so many of those were still open. They shut down the two in my home town and I thought that it was all over for the franchise. Thanks for the heads up!

  22. 22Willy MacNo Gravatar on Oct 31, 2009 at 7:39 pm:

    @17 – No

@18 – Dude, you have to appreciate the simplicity. And if you get the bagged sandwiches, they’re actually really damn good tailgating food.

@20 – Sub Station II Kills. My favorite place in my home town, Rock Hill.

If anyone is every in Ann Arbor, check out Dibellas. Best subs in the country. I’ve been to all of the Clemson places mentioned, except for Beezers. Never made it to the iconic Beezers. Dibellas and Mr. Spots are a must in A2. I met Tom Brady @ Mr. Spots two years ago during the Ohio St/ U of M game when they were #1 and #2.

  25. 25Magic HoboNo Gravatar on Nov 1, 2009 at 3:29 pm:

@24, there are DiBellas all over the place up north. My boyfriend’s from Rochester, NY and there was a DiBellas on every freakin’ block there. They’re not too shabby.
