ACC BLOG ROUND TABLE, WEEK 4

This week we are hosting the ACC Blog Round table discussion. We asked five questions to bloggers around the conference and you can check out their answers by following the links posted below.  So it’s kind of like a large, professional, uh… no, no. It’s just a bunch of drunks and lushes screaming shit out to whoever will listen as if this were an ACC version of The Price Is Right.

1) Does this weekends OOC performance for the ACC negate that first weekend’s total bed shitting performance? Why or why not?

Willy Mac: Unfortunately, no.  The national media coverage has a love affair with all things SEC and rightfully so.  We can’t have teams losing to FCS teams or non-BCS opponents.  Granted it was our bottom feeders, but we still need that strong out of conference showing to turn some heads.  This year’s week one might be a lot more devastating as we have to look at this argument week by week with the ACC’s television contracts expiring soon for football. If we’re going to cash a check resembling anything like the one the big boys take to the bank then we’re going to have to up the effort.  I don’t think the three teams (Maryland, Virginia, & Duke) are going to do us any favors besides rolling over and taking a wood shedding by the rest of the teams in the conference.

Chili: Mostly no. ACC teams lost to such prominent national powers as William & Mary, Richmond, Baylor, Sakerlina, and the University of Phoenix. Okay one of those isn’t that bad and one of those is imaginary, but I digress. Recently, VT did the conference a solid by boring the life out of Nebraska while FSU curbstomped BYU. I will reserve full judgment until this weekend’s matchups between Clemson and TCU and NCSU and Pitt (not to mention Duke vs.  NC Central, Maryland vs. Rutgers, and FSU vs. USF) and next weekend’s interesting battle between Miami and Oklahoma.

2) Continuing the weekly theme of predicting the conference outcome, who’ll play in the ACC CG?

Chili: Miami appears to be in the driver’s seat in the Coastal, pending the VT game, and Florida State could very well be up against Clemson for the Atlantic Division. My money would be on an all-Flawda ACCCG, which could be good news for a championship game with lower attendance numbers than a William Hung concert. Yes, I just made a William Hung reference in 2009, fuck off.

Willy Mac: Like Chili, Right now I’m putting Miami and FSU for the rematch in the conference championship with the Hurricanes (I refuse to call you the Canes, you jean short wearing, gold chain having, jersey toting, axe body spray abusing turds) taking home the trophy. The Coastal Division will be decided this weekend when Miami rolls into Blacksburg and takes down a very good Virginia Tech squad.  The Atlantic division could be decided on November 7th when FSU comes to Tiger Town.  Clemson should have two in conference losses by then (Georgia Tech & Miami) and hopefully FSU will have lost to UNC the previous week putting them two in the hole as well.

3) Is Miami a legit top ten team? Why or why not?

Willy Mac: They’re an extremely legit team.  Given their prime time performances and veritable trouncing of everyone they’ve faced, they could be poised to do big things for the rest of the year.  The must wins for them to get back to the old times are the Hokies this weekend and Oklahoma at home in a few weeks. Right now, they’re the potential dream crushers of every team in the conference. As Chili alluded to earlier, they’re the school bully wandering the halls looking to lock folks in their lockers for the rest of the day.

Chili: I’ve been harping on Miami’s possible (I stress possible) resurgence this year, and they seem to be on pace for a breakout season. Their top ten status is borderline legit, and I’m again reserving judgment until they face VT and Oklahoma. The Canes are a very talented team, but in some respects relatively young. Due to this fact I wouldn’t be surprised if they inexplicably fell on their face at some point in the year.

4) If you had to declare an ACC MVP right now, who’s your top guy?

All quiet on the home front...

Chili & Willy Mac: You’ve got to share the same opinion as everyone else right now and give it to Jacory Harris. The kid is a work horse (or hoss, in delightful southern vernacular) and is all over the place. Somewhere Behind him is CJ Spiller. Not sure if he’s second or further back, but he definitely hasn’t had a breakout game yet this season. No MVP numbers, but we can’t think of a team in the nation that wouldn’t love to have him in their starting lineup. Jacoby Ford has remained largely quiet on the front lines because he hasn’t figured out a way to get some decent blocking or catch many passes for that matter.

5) Women, whiskey, and miles of travelin’ is all that we understand. That’s not a question, that’s just a fact.

I’m going to reserve judgement on Jacory Harris just for a bit. He has – and Miami has – played great so far, no question. But these guys are young, not used to this success, and have a lot of games yet to play. He may very well be the POY and the leader of a nationally prominent team, but as a Clemson alum, high hopes and fast starts can fall apart rapidly. It’ll be interesting to see how Miami does these next two weeks.

I hate to be the guy who keeps hating on Miami but…they haven’t played a defense yet. They still SUCK.

  6. 6ChiliNo Gravatar on Sep 23, 2009 at 6:03 pm:

@2 Understandable, but who would you put above him for MVP?

@4, you’ve got a good point, and they absolutely could shit the bed from here on out, but we’ll all just have to wait and see.

@3 – No to everything. We hosted the blog round table instead. I’ll my HW though and provide you with the best coverage I can get you tomorrow.

I found a few tcu blogs, but they are all idiots. most of what I read concerned the fact that this game is not televised. they think that clemson is teaming up with the acc and espn, conspiring to keep tcu off of television.

yeah, what all clemson fans want is for a game against a nationally ranked opponent to NOT be on television. all clemson fans are happy to be part of the acc and we all worship its esteemed leader swofford, who has never made a bad decision in his life.

    @3 & 7:
I’ve been doing some research on the interwebs. Here’s what I’ve found:

Horned toads can be dangerous. They shoot blood out of their eyes. Also, they are neither toads nor frogs. They surround themselves with buxom womens. Finally, they work as bounty hunters for Jabba the Hutt.

Ok guys, here’s the deal. I tried. I did. But their fan base it too goddamned smug for me. They’re nothing like the Texas A&M fans were. They’re not knowledgeable and if their football team was bad they could care less. Think Virginia in the 90′s. They’ve got a decent team and they want to let you know it. They’re all goody two shoes and every last one of them reminds me of the Tigernet homers. No “Know Your…” segment this week, but we’ll hammer out a bigger, better preview tonight or tomorrow.

  17. 17TullyNo Gravatar on Sep 24, 2009 at 3:20 pm:

I think you should post their responses to your request as “Know Your…” instead. So we can know how big of D-Bags they are.

  23. 23KyleNo Gravatar on Sep 25, 2009 at 7:39 am:

@22 Yes. Plug your ESPN360-capable computer into your computer-connecting-capable television.

  24. 24LawtonfunkNo Gravatar on Sep 25, 2009 at 8:32 am:

@22, you can buy a CPU to TV device for about $20.

    http://www.svideo.com/pctvcables.html

Your CPU may have the correct connections which will take a trip to Radio Shack to get the correct cords. If not, this little guide will help you buy the right product.

Granted if your processor and/or internet connection sucks, you don’t want to do this. Oh, I also find that my computer is faster if I mirror the display as opposed to extending the display.
