- That wasn’t holding. That was an absolute horseshit call. It was a great block and in some ways, that cost us the game. Thanks for nothing, Rob Spence disguised as an ACC official.
- What the fuck is it about us getting deep dicked in Atlanta for the world to see on ESPN
- Dabo & co. make great half time adjustments, I just wish we hadn’t allowed ourselves to get in that big of a hole.
- If Andre Powell is still in charge of special teams, he needs to be fired from that position. Check that, who ever is in charge of special teams needs to be fired from that position.
- Georgia Tech put on a clinic for good blocking.
- More after I check out the DVR. Prolly later this weekend.
- CUAD postgame.
Winfield’s immediate reaction:
“At least it was entertaining for the unbiased viewers. CJ Spiller is legit, Jacoby Ford is freaking fast, and your defensive line is hella good. Y’all got someone in Dabo. Those 2nd half adjustments gave us fits. Good luck the rest of the way”

It’s obvious now, Parker has an absolute cannon. He made some throws last night that just made me shake my head in disbelief.
And yes, it was a bullshit holding call.

at about 29 sec. into that video you see a white section of Tech fans and it just stops with a row of Clemson fans. That was us. I made it on tv. My life is complete. Holler at your boy.
Haven’t seen the alleged holding call on yet, but by all accounts it was a horse shit call, so I’m going to agree.

Really couldn’t believe we were even in a position to win this one, but it was obvious who had the most overall talent. Though the stupid coaching decesions in the 1st quarter should’ve never happened, I like the way the coaches adjusted and the players never gave up. And that goddamn phantom holding call!!!! I sure as hell hope someone sends that in to the league and makes a big fucking noise about it cause it cost us the game.

“Athletics director Terry Don Phillips said the university requests that ESPN and the ACC bypass taking one of Clemson’s home games for the prime-time slot because of logistics related to fan convenience.”
I just read this little note in the paper this morning. Can anyone explain this to me?

I fucking hated that when I was in school. It has nothing to do with fan convenience, it’s because Barker’s bitchass doesn’t want to cancel classes on Thursday due to tailgating.
I remember them fighting about the FSU labor day game, since Clemson is one of the rare institutions that hold classes on labor day.

All in all I feel pretty good about this year’s team. That’s easy to say now after 1 game, so I’m tempering my optimism, but I can’t honestly remember the last time we made halftime adjustments that put us in position to win. That holding call was ridiculous, Austin’s hands were inside and you can pretty much do whatever you want. I also credit GT though, that fake kick for a TD was a pretty good play. On the TD pass to Spiller that was a beastly block by Rendrick Taylor to protect Parker. I really want to see what we do to BC now; they have been a pesky bunch of bastards and if we dispose of them convincingly I’ll believe a little more than I do now.

Now that I’m sober I feel better after that game. Good coaching adjustments at half time.
Still, the coaching calls Dabo made during the 1st half were horrendous. I really wish he would he would stop with the cute crap like that fg/punt thing. It burned us in the GT game last year and again this year. Also not sending out a FG safe package on that fake FG GT pulled off was terrible.
And fuck ACC refs. A holding call (wasn’t holding either, if anything clipping because that player dove at the knees of an already engaged player) on first down is not a makeup call for fucking us over on a 30 yd gain on 3rd down.

I’m really hoping that this season will be about gaining momentum as Dabo and his staff and the team gain experience. That really never happened under the Bowden regime, as a grand victory over an FSU one week would likely mean a humiliating loss to a Duke the next and the cycle would repeat the next season.
@11 -yeah, let’s just see how Dabo handles Evil Boston College next week. Hopefully the team from the 3rd quarter will be present all game.
@12 -HELL YEAH! ACC Refs can eat it, especially Ron Cherry. Sharp got it right regarding Ron Cherry.

CUVinny, that fake field goal was a good play. If I remember correctly (most of last night is hazy), they had their offense on the field to go for it on fourth down. With a few seconds left on the play clock, they sprinted their offense off the field and their special teams on… but one guy on O didn’t quite make it off the field, and we didn’t see him, let alone account for him. We were preparing to stop a fourth down play, not a field goal, because of their quick substitution. Why would we have a FG safe package on???
But yeah, Dabo’s gotta quit with that cute shite.

ANGRY RANT….
If WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES is the ultimate goal of Clemson’s motherfucking Football Program then we should insist on hosting a Thursday night game for every Thursday night away game we are required to play – this is at minimum. If we were smart, we’d try to do more hosting than traveling.
TDP should be fired for the decision not to host Thursday night games because well 8 or 9 times out of ten in these ACC games the home team wins – this percentage goes up on a short week. If you want to get an almost sure win during a season, you host a Thursday night game. You want an almost sure loss, you play at GT on a short week – not making this excuse for yestersday game but in generalities the hardships Thursday night games place on teams by fact of the numbers (wins and losses in ACC Thursday night matchups) and GT’s offense being one difficult in some respects to prepare for.
Yet because of TDP we seemingly have to travel to a Thursday night game every year. I understand Clemson is not really centrally located to a lot of the Alumni base and for all sorts of boosters Thursday nights are harder to attend – the list of reasons is long and varied. I understand the point. But one thing overrides these hardships, WINS. If that is Clemson footballs ultimate goal which it god damn well should be then we need to be playing host to Thursday night games if we are forced to go on the road on Thursdays – one for one. If our base is really as adamant about not hosting Thursday night games then TDP should grow a pair and insist we don’t play them away either.

@9 – Actually, since you mentioned it, here’s what I was thinking: http://www.itsmyblog.com/2009/09/georgia-tech-wrapup.html
Being right about Paul Johnson doesn’t make me happy when we lose to them. I still wish we could have won, and we made some great adjustments to come back and almost take it. Specifically we started having our DE’s play outside QB to pitch instead of pinching inside like we did in the first quarter. This adjustment worked well until the last drive of the game where Paul Johnson countered our strategy by having the QB pull the handoff and follow the FB instead of sweeping outside. This tore us up and allowed the winning FG.
The fact is that Dabo got outcoached last night, and as much as I wish I could go back in time and somehow convince TDP to call Tommy’s Arkansas bluff, fire his ass, and hire Paul Johnson I cannot do that, so what I am doing instead is being positive about Dabo Swinney. He got schooled in the first quarter and he will learn from that. He did what good coaches do and he made adjustments and kept the players in the game and we almost pulled it out. Dabo is our guy and he’s learning on the job. Hopefully he’ll learn from this lesson and we won’t get caught with our pants down again.

Same person, different circumstances. I tell it like it is, period. Tommy Bowden was an overrated arrogant ass that should have never been hired. Dabo is at least humble and though he wasn’t my first choice he has a lot of potential. My outlook will not be this rosy if Dabo shows that he won’t improve. For now, I hope he can grow into a great coach, because he reacts to adversity the way you want a coach to, and he sure as hell sounds like my kind of guy in interviews.

@17 i dont think the paul johnson offence can ever make a program into a national title contender, sure it’s hard to prepare for/stop, but there are almost always injuries that result from throwing your quarterback up the middle or having him take a hit right after handing the ball off.

Yeah, Nebraska didn’t do shit in the 90′s.
For every 1 NFL type quarterback there is coming out of high school, there are 20 good athletes running the triple option. Nesbitt isn’t a triple option quarterback, so when they get one they will be damned hard to stop.

Good point, Nebraska ran the option back then. Like I said, when run properly the option is unstoppable. You guys gotta take off the orange colored glass and quit hating on Johnson because GT is going to be very good for as long as he’s there. That being said…we have a pretty damn good coach too from what I saw Thursday night. I’m not saying he’s going to be the next Danny Ford or anything but I do see us becoming a contender in our own conference again. Gone are the days of getting beat by the likes of Wake Forest, Maryland, Duke, NC State, etc.

I think Thursday night was a good game overall. The 1st quarter, Clemson looked like a soft ass D-2 school getting beaten up on, but after that you could see the difference…
The one thing I’m most thrilled about is that the coaches MADE ADJUSTMENTS AT HALFTIME!!!!
I don’t think I’ve seen a Clemson team in my lifetime make those kind of adjustments at Half time and come out firing on all cylinders. I think this loss is a building block for Clemson and that we will see a stout competitive team for the rest of the season, which is all we can ask for is fans. I would love to see this team win out the rest of the season, and after the 2nd half of the G-Tech game, where we came out and scared the shit out of a top 15 team on their turf on a Thursday night against a great offense, I truly believe Clemson can be major contenders this year.
GO TIGERS!

At one point, I remember thinking. If we were playing in Clemson I would be loudly explaining “Back up the truck, turn this place into a parking lot”. I had also checked my blackberry for possible ways to get a refund for my airfare to Miami and Maryland.
Much to my suprise I was happy that the team rallied and grew some marbles. Makes me much more optimistic. Especially after the FSU, Maryland, UVa, UNC outcomes this weekend.
