There were quite a few interviews during the preseason asking PJ about the 3 games in 12 days for Tech and how they were planning on dealing with it. None of his responses to these questions were callous or with disregard for the Clemson team; they rather indicated that the coaches were working on plans for Clemson but they wanted the players to stay focused. I do believe that the coaches have spent quite a large amount of time planning for Clemson under the understanding that they would have little time to convey these plans to the players. After the Gardner-Webb and LSU games last year, there has been much stress put on not looking past individual opponents. I believe the majority of comments emphasizing this stress on practicing for JSU and JSU only during the weeks before the game were to address this point and not to belittle or overlook the challenges GT has over the next two weeks facing compressed time schedules and talented opponents (Clemson and Miami).

As we sit here typing stuff into our little plastic and resin computers, Dabo is well into his twelfth hour preparing for tomorrow’s game. No, not writing plays. No, not trying to figure out the triple option. Dabo is busy writing up lots and lots of card-playing analogies for his press conference after the game. Yes, it’s hard writing on a Piggly Wiggly bag with a crayon, but that’s Dabo for you. He’s old school.

Good Q&A, guys. The Tech guys didn’t seem as dickish as last season, so that was actually kind of a let down. This is going to be a tough game for Clemson. This is the type of game that calls for Danny Ford football: lots of running plays, excellent defense and reliable special teams. If we win this one, Parker and Dabo will have a lot of new fans Friday morning.

PJ has big huge nuts. He didn’t prepare for Clemson in the offseason and he’s not afraid to kick it to CJ Spiller. I’d say he’s out of his fucking mind but I know better. We gotta tough one on our hands tomorrow.

Well Pig, that honestly is good for Clemson. If GT felt like they needed to prepare for Jax St. just as much as Clemson, then GT still has a lot of work to do, or they are underestimating Clemson. I am a fan of PJs coaching style and all but he is no god.

Tigersack, I think you are confusing practice with what coaches do.

I’m a tech fan. CPJ has said that they broke down some Clemson video over the spring/summer, but that they haven’t done anything specific with the players to gear for clemson until the day after Jacksonville St.

@9 I think GT’s offense is GT’s offense. They don’t particularly care what you are going to do defensively. They know you need to prepare to stop them, not the other way around. Defensively, I don’t think that Clemson does anything so special on offense that they are going to spend a whole lot of time working out special schemes for it. I would think they just spend a couple days telling their guys to be extra aware for certain things.

If that’s the case, I don’t find it hard to believe that Johnson didn’t spend much time preparing.

I think its ridiculous to believe any team doesn’t prepare a little for any opponent they face during spring, summer, and/or fall workouts. At some point in time during practice or film you look and say this is some of the things Clemson does offensively / defensively. No matter how you diagnose it GT has worked on some aspect of playing against each team on their schedule.

BTW if Paul Johnson hollered at me to go now, I would have sped off and went ahead and clipped a few cheerleaders / band members in route. Good stuff.
