A few quick notes on the ACC Media days and other things:
- As Mogrits broke in the forums earlier, Clemson linebacker Stanley “Buster” Hunter has decided to end his football career. Hunter has suffered with epileptic seizures lately and he’d rather be safe than sorry. He has been granted a medical hardship scholarship and will continue to go to Clemson, helping the football team out on the sidelines.
- CJ Spiller was voted second by the media in top player voting. He came in behind Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer. Aside from the soap box peddlers, the players at the event voted Spiller first.
- Clemson was also voted by the media to finish second in the Atlantic division behind Florida State. They have Virginia Tech winning the championship. All of these are pretty spot on in my opinion. I’m not so sure we even deserve second place right now. Preseason rankings are like assholes though, waka waka!
- Two recruits committed to the Tigers Monday night, and they are tight end Sam Cooper (6-5, 230) of Nashville, Tennessee and defensive back Martin Jenkins (5-9, 166) of Roswell, GA. They mark the 11th and 12th members of the 2010 recruiting class to commit to Clemson. Welcome.
Lastly, I (Willy Mac) think Ron Morris is right in his article stating that “Clemson needs fewer mottos and more wins.” It doesn’t change the fact that Morris is still the biggest cock-eyed, fanboy Gamecock nerd ever. I’m floored that there is someone like Morris who consistently reloads the same idiotic opinion about his home team every year. Come on Ron, you know how this is going to end. We all do. Clemson is going to have another slightly above average season. The Gamecocks will be media darlings until they shit the bed. I have September 24th circled on my calendar. Then they’ll flounder, lose to us in the finale and you’ll be in some media room asking Steve what happened and he’ll give you the same old confused and flabbergasted look. Pfft. Nerd.

across the web it seems like there are a lot of people talking shit about spiller, many of them GT fans who are convinced that dwyer is better. probably because they havent had to play spiller in 2 years

Yeah I’m kinda getting that feeling too. Of course Dwyer or any back for that matter is gonna put up huge numbers in that offense, but he’s not as good as Spiller.

I think Spiller is more talented, and may be the most talented running back in the country. I don’t want us to belittle Dwyer, though. He did rush for almost 1400 yards while averaging 7.0 ypc. I don’t care what offense you’re in 7 yards per carry is insane. Spiller will be on Sportscenter more and can hurt you in more ways, but Dwyer should be the leading vote getter for POY. He is the reigning POY and everyone knows he’s going to get every chance to succeed, whereas Spiller has a new coach and an OL that was mediocre last season. They’re such different backs it’s hard to compare them. Spiller isn’t going to run over someone but Dwyer’s not going to juke anyone. I think at the end of the year Spiller will have more highlight reel plays but Dwyer will probably post better numbers.
Before I get royally attacked though, I would never trade Spiller for Dwyer. CJ fits what we do much, much better and should be better at the next level. I can see Spiller putting up close to 1000 on the ground and another 500-600 receiving while Dwyer rushes for 1500.

Wow, sorry to see Hunter off the team. Hope his health improves.
@2: Oh lordy. Tom is gonna come on here and Paul Johnson your face off, Willy Mac. Watch out!
I agree with the article: at this point in the season, I could care less what any pre-season whatever says about the Tigers. Lots of unknowns for us this year, but hopefully it will all congeal out on the football field. If not, Korn save us.
If Spurrier has another massive meltdown this year, do you think he’ll quit? Have a stroke? Confess his man-crush on Tim Tebow? Personally, I vote that he’ll be caught urinating on the sidelines. During a game.

Pre-season awards are just like polls that come out before week 4. They don’t mean a thing and they are just another reason to complain/argue/discuss.

@5 You’re absolutely right, but arguing sure beats watching paint dry.
On that note, Dwyer’s an overrated flash in the pan soon to show his great ability to choke. However, I do wish GT good luck in their long and glorious road to the middle.
