Drafted
Dorell Scott – St. Louis Rams in the 4th round (No. 103) at Defensive Tackle
Chris Clemmons – Miami Dolphins in the 5th Round (No. 165) at Defensive Back
Michael Hamlin – Dallas Cowboys in the 5th Round (No. 166) at Defensive Back
James Davis – Cleveland Browns in the 6th Round (No. 195) at Running Back
Free Agency
Aaron Kelly – Agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons at Wide Receiver
Rashaad Jackson – Agreed to terms with the San Diego Chargers at Defensive Line
Tyler Grisham – Agreeing to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wide Receiver
Out in the Cold
Cullen Harper – Hopefully agreeing to terms with the Wendy’s off of Pelham Road near the I-85 off-ramp for Second Shift Manager.

***UPDATE*** – It seems that talks fell through with Wendy’s as one of Harpers demands was a high scale house in the exclusive Thornblade neighborhood close by. Another potential suitor for Harper might come in the form of OCE, a company that specializes in printers and plotters. OCE is the direct rival of Konica Minolta and it’s been well publicized that Harper referred to KM as, “a bunch of assholes that don’t know how to fill a decent gift bag at a bowl game.” No word yet if any OCE representatives have been in contact, but this would be a huge step up from the burger business. It’s likely he would fill an unpaid intern position or possibly a part time entry level sales position.

And now I will not eat at that Wendy’s as I am afraid that my food will end up at least 15 yards away from the drive through smashed between 3 over weight men. Thanks

Made hate for Cullen. I never thought he was that bad. He just had the same gauntlet of coordinator/coach changes that Whitehurst had to deal with. No QB’s gonna be consistent in that atmosphere.

@4, true, but he made a lot of stupid mistakes, taking long sacks instead of throwing it away, checking down to a running back before scanning the field. Not to mention the Wake Forest debacle this year when he didn’t bother to even look off safeties or corners, thinking he could rely on his rocket powered arm to duck a pass to a WR. He was a good QB, very capable of handing it off on two plays then throwing on 3rd, but not a great QB

@5 Some of my friends went to Seaworld over spring break while in florida, and at the baseball games this weekend we did the Seaworld Shamu chant and motions, it was ballin’. We summoned the mystical powers of Shamu to splash the competition and lead us to victory…http://www.imeem.com/disneylandforever/music/kGTTRGoI/seaworld-shamu-shamu/…It’s like the Haka, but better…Just ask the GT outfielders, they saw it, and we’re intimidated..But it’s ok we gave them Zebra Cakes sunday to slow them down, and they gave me a GT baseball, that was cool. @15 wThe GT Outfielders were actually pretty damn nice to us. They were the first one to actually talk to us this year, making our usual mean heckling hard to do, mostly we just talked to them to get them off their game. But it was fun, they are a classy team, and I can see why they’re so good. Very talented team, and it’s awesome that Clemson could take those two games from them. But yeah, I’m sure they are talking about how crazy we were…

James Davis may be the Terrell Davis of this draft. Mel Kiper said so. Well, not in so many words, but that’s what I interpret that he was implying.

No, I see what you mean. He did have a lot of promise and it was utterly crushed by an offense behind an inept line run by an inept coordinator. Still…hopefully by some miracle he’ll still get a chance to do something.

@28 – I feel bad for JD too. But I do worry a little that down the road he will distance himself from Clemson. I don’t think he will openly comment about his empty promises. Mainly because he may not get the spotlight to do so, but also because of his character not letting him openly do so.

on Apr 28, 2009 at 8:16 am:
Yeah, I second and third (maybe fourth?) the Davis sympathy. However if there is a silver lining I think it’s that he went to the Browns. That’s not exactly a crowded backfield. Jamal Lewis is old for an NFL back and slow, and there’s really no other backs on the roster that you can say is definitively better than Davis. Hopefully he can make a splash in training camp and move up to the 2nd team or maybe even challenge Lewis at some point.
33CUTigersinDV
on Apr 28, 2009 at 9:21 am:
He can certainly split carries with Lewis as a 1 2 punch. I just don’t see him carrying the load as a lone NFL back.

@all people talking about JD. With the NFL coaches training JD and actually giving him good position coaching. JD will most likely turn out to be a great NFL back. He is strong, fast, exelent field vision, perfect size, and has the work ethic required to succeed in the NFL. He should have no problem carrying the load as a lone NFL back with some development. Clemson just did not develop him the way they should have. Also, its pretty hard for a back to rack up the yards when all of your opponents can shut down the offense with 9 guys in the box. It sucks that he was drafted so late, however he still was drafted, what happens now is up to him.

@35. All good points, except he’s going to Cleveland. With Anderson/ Quinn at QB theres a good chance that alot of defenses will be stacking the box.

@Joe – don’t forget that not only did the D stack the box, they knew that the play was going to go no further than 5 yards away from the LOS (if that) so the safeties and the corners were playing tight, making it all the more astounding that Davis had the success he did at Clemson.
I too hope he has a great NFL career and I know he has the tools and ability to get it done, but he’ll need a stroke of luck as RB’s have the shortest lifespan in the NFL and Cleveland isn’t exactly a breeding ground for success.

on Apr 30, 2009 at 9:22 am:
@ 44: That is a good point. With all of the short passes and screens we ran the opposing secondaries never had to really play off the line. Davis really had the odds against him while he was here – other than his freshman year, he never had a reliable QB, he was sharing carries with Spiller, and had an OC that hindered the running game with his philosophy. The fact that RBs have short lifespans may help him though, as Ahmad Bradshaw, Ryan Grant, Willie Parker, etc. were all undrafted or low round picks that have done well. Even if Davis is unable to make an impact in Cleveland he might still find success with another club if a couple RBs go down on their roster.
