BRIEF FRIDAY NEWS AND NOTES

Baseball

  • The Greenville News put out a filler piece on this weekend’s upcoming series against Miami, as did The State.
  • The implications of this series are huge.  No. 5 Miami (10-5 ACC, 24-8) is at the top of the Coastal division.  No. 20 Clemson (9-6 ACC, 21-11) is at the top of the Atlantic division.  Given Miami’s history of greatness in baseball, this will be no easy task even if it is a home series.
  • You can check out Miami’s AD preview of the game here. The Sunday noon game will be televised on CSS.  All three games will be radio broadcast by WCCP as always.
  • ***UPDATE*** – Here is the CUAD preview of the series.  Link.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Friday, April 10th, 6:30 P.M.
Probable Starters: Miami – LHP Chris Hernandez (3-2, 5.80 ERA) vs. Clemson – LHP Casey Harman (3-2, 3.82 ERA)
Saturday, April 11th, 6:30 P.M.
Probable Starters: Miami – RHP David Gutierrez (2-3, 2.48 ERA) vs. Clemson – LHP Chris Dwyer (3-2, 5.21 ERA)
Sunday, April 12th, Noon
Probable Starters: Miami – LHP Iden Nazario (4-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. Clemson – TBA

Jack Leggett and the Tigers are poised to face No. 5 Miami

  • Heather Dinich harps on the fact that the ACC continues to be a tough defensive conference year in and year out.  She claims that Clemson has and more than likely will continue to be a big part of that eqaution.
  • Jacoby Ford made the front page of the ACC’s official website as they are congratulating all their spring semester champions.
  • The CUAD has released their version of this weekend’s schedule.
  • The Block-C tailgate is official.  Check the thread here on the battle plan.
  • ***UPDATE*** – Here is a pdf version of the roster from the CUAD via the Greenville News that was floated along to me.  Link.

in an answer to my own question, no, they’re playing a double header tomorrow starting at 330

So, after watching the spring game, I find myself asking when I can start looking forward to an EKPR (extreme Kyle Parker report). I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up being the starter, he was clearly the best quarterback today. Plus, he’s gonna go play in a baseball doubleheader 10 minutes after the spring game ends, which is about as EXTREME as it gets.

I think Parker is going to beat out Korn…I know y’all think that’s blasphemy, but he looks to have the better arm.

I agree, not only do his passes have more velocity on them, but I thought he looked a lot more decisive today. He did a good job of getting the ball out of his hand quickly, and if it wasn’t there, he tucked and ran and got positive yardage. Korn looked a lot like Harper and Proctor in that he seemed hesitant, which led to some negative plays. He also had two interceptions in the red zone today. I of course have no idea if this has been a consistent difference between the two in practice, but atleast based on what I saw today, Parker looked to be the better choice at starter.

Parker looked like he was in a completely different league from Korn today, at least to me.

The awesome thing was is that I got to see Parker throw that ridiculous TD pass, then hit a homer in the second game of the double header last night.

    Willy who?

Good spring game. Looks like Parker more in likely will be our starting QB. The defensive line for both squads looked hungry as well, maybe Brooks has already left his mark? Receivers look better, more surer hands than last year within the whole group.

  11. 11PenthouseTigerNo Gravatar on Apr 13, 2009 at 1:02 pm:

@10 i agree about the receivers, better hands as a whole, but I still think we’ll miss the go-to guys that were tyler grisham and aaron kelley

  12. 12TullyNo Gravatar on Apr 13, 2009 at 2:02 pm:

To quote Winston Wolfe: “Let’s not start sucking Kyle Parker’s dick quite yet.” Or something like that.

There’s a lot of practice left before the first snap next fall, so let’s not crown Kyle Parker as the second coming. Taking a wait-and-see approach might be the prudent move.

Let’s say we turn our back on the alter of Korn right now and Parker goes down with an ACL injury in late August. That jump back on the Korn bandwagon is going to be mighty tough to make. In other words: Keep it in the pants for Parker. Let’s see how it plays out.

  13. 13DanielNo Gravatar on Apr 13, 2009 at 2:25 pm:

I agree but at the same time, it’s hard not to feel confident about our team’s future. I don’t think we’re going to be all that good this year, but when our O-linemen (Cloy, Norris, McCalin, Jay, etc.) are upperclassmen they could combine with Parker, Harper, Ellington, Marquan Jones, etc. to make a pretty bad ass offense. Then with Bowers, our defense should be loaded.

i’m not willing to give up on korn yet because he looked more creative and decisive on the field. if he fixes his throwing motion then i still think he has a good shot at winning the job
