Can’t blame him for staying, Austin is a very nice city.
As long as we dont get Bobby Johnson, I can deal with the choice TDP makes.

I’m calling it first: Publicity stunt to draw attention away from TTU-OU. Gotta hand it to ‘em – that Longhorn PR machine is genius:
-They get into the news during their bye.
-They draw attention away from TTU-OU.
-And Mack will probably get a little JoePa-esque boost out of this now that voters know this could be one of his last shots at the NC (I’ve heard rumors that Mack wants the AD job at UT and will retire after next season).
So maybe it’s not really a publicity stunt, but more of a really, really, really well timed announcement. Damn those genius bastards!

Ah well, it was a fun fantasy while it lasted. Hate to see Muschamp go off Clemson’s radar. OR IS HE? IS IT ALL AN ELABORATE RUSE BY BILL COWHER TO DEMAND MORE MONEY? IS BILL COWHER WORKING WITH REVEREND WRIGHT AND MUSCHAMP? IS YOUR COMPUTER Y2K COMPATIBLE? I CHECKED IT OUT AT SNOPES.COM AND IT’S ALL FOR REALS!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know if Bobby “hammmbooorger” Johnson has actually been interviewed by TDP, or is it all just speculation?
Non Sequitur: Anyone who is a fan of Classic/ Hard Rock/ Metal needs to check out a group called Pentagram, like NOW. They recorded in the 70′s and have been “underground” for decades. Awesome stuff!

Funny, but I learned when Lou Holt went to SC anything is possible in college football.

NavyChief, yeah, the Lou Holtz at SC still amazes me. Heck, the Spurrier at SC still amazes me and also the fact that he still hasn’t accomplished anything there. I tell you guys, get ready for him to wear a fedora to a press conference or the black fingernail paint, something. All this losing will get to Spurrier mentally. The guy cannot take much more.

Hmmmm, weird announcement to make. Mack Brown is only 57 years old. You have to figure he has a good 6 to 10 years left in him. He’s not a Joe Pa or Bobby Bowden who will only be around 1 or 2 more seasons.
Texas is a top 5 job in the country, just doesn’t seem like the best career move to wait around for 6 years getting paid a 3rd of what you could make else where.

I think this was just good defense by Texas. They knew Muschamp wouldn’t be around next year, and they didn’t want to lose him as DC, so they named him the successor to Brown. They obviously see the potential there too.

With Texas putting the hold on Muschamp, what happens with Major Applewhite? He is there OC, just got in town this past year or so. I bet he will not stay down there now, knowing that there is no way for him to move up any further with Muschamp being named the HC. Think TDP will go talk to him and bring in an offensive minded coach?
Oh, and I’d like to pull a Tom and say that right now I am calling it that we pretty much have already hired Bud Foster

Mark it down, If Vandy wins out and finishes 8-4, and they very well could cause they play Tenn and Wake, you will see our new head coach…Bobby Johnson. Which personally i would absolutely love. Hes a good recruiter and runs one of the cleanest programs. He developed Cutler and helped another SC native in DJ Moore possibly become another 1st round pick.

on Nov 19, 2008 at 10:48 am:
The Major is not the OC yet, its still Greg Davis’ job. He is just the RB coach. Davis is expected to retire within the next few years, as it appears he doesnt want a HC job anywhere, and they are grooming Applewhite for the job.

I will bet a gold sacagawea that Muschamp will never be head coach at Texas. As stated above, Mack will be there for a while, and why would you settle for $900k when you could make $3 mil with nice little buyout. It do not make sense!

Maybe Texas is increasing is Muschamp’s stock because you can bet there are some dummy’s out there that might still go out and try to hire him…

@ 18: Dabo has to be the top candidate. Plus with Muschamp out I think the Clemson faithful are probably behind Dabo more than anyone else at this point. I think he’s TDP’s guy.

@18, I would hope that means nothing to TDP when hiring a coach. You aren’t going to hire someone to get one player for one year. Also look what has happened to WVU when they hired the player’s choice for coach. Same deal with Larry Coker at Miami.
Just a bad idea.
