COACHING NEWS AND THINGS THAT MAKE ME SAD
Lane Kiffin interviewed for the Clemson position last week, meeting with TDP in Detroit.
The State reports that Brent Venables, the Oklahoma DC with whom Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips reportedly met with earlier this week, is sticking with “no comment” about the situation. ZOMG HE’S ALREADY HIRED!!!!1!!1!!!111ONE!ELEVN!
In that same article is an interesting quote:
“He’s getting to where he doesn’t (care) about anything, and that’s the way you need to play the position. I think early on, he was too worried about what people thought. You can’t play that position that way.”
— quarterbacks coach and former Furman quarterback Billy Napier, on senior quarterback Cullen Harper
Yep, he sure doesn’t care about anything. Not about throwing pick-sixes to d-linemen or nothin, mannnn. Although I guess having to be subjected to constant pummeling because your offensive line can’t stop shit makes you reevaluate your views on life and whatnot. Clemson has the only o-line that has a losing record against the blocking sled.
BLUE DEVIL BROTHERS IN ARMS
From the ESPN preview page of our game:
National Ranks:
Total yards: CU 82 Duke 91
Passing yards: CU 53 Duke 56
Rushing yards: CU 91 Duke 102
Points scored: CU 65 Duke 61
Yeah… that’s not good.
DISCUSS AMONGST YASELVES
The State has an article almost surely crafted to anger the SEC homers who flock to that paper; Is the ACC Better than the SEC? Of course it’s not. Certainly not at the top, but I think the Atlantic Coast Conference might have an argument about top to bottom or overall competitiveness but that argument is sort of drowned out by the imminent relevance of things like selling out your championship game, winning a BCS game, that sort of thing.
SMILE TIME
As much as we rag on the Tigernetters, we firmly believe that Clemson has some of the best fans in the country. The outpouring of support (link goes to PDF) for BC’s Clarence Megwa after his tib/fib fracture at the hands of DeAndre McDaniel is futher proof of this. (HT: BC Eagle)
PURNELL FOR HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
Oliver Purnell signed a consensus top 25 class yesterday, highlighted by lowcountry star Milton Jennings, a 6-9 forward from Summerville, SC. He is regarded as the highest ranked basketball recruit (12th nationally) to sign with the Tigers since Sharone Wright in ’91.

We have a winner for DSOT already…check the post about Spiller’s apparent shoulder injury via rainy moped crash.

Slowly but surely OP is going to build us into a very good program. If I were TDP I’d give that man whatever he asks for, because you know another big program is going to come calling eventually.

Purnell has done a great job at Clemson, and that had to have hurt Bowden by comparison. If Purnell can get this recruiting class to perform as well as the one that just graduated Clemson basketball will continue to make waves. Don’t know how this season will go but the future stays bright as long as OP is our coach.

So, are we about to lose to Duke? Someone tell me that’s not happening. Please . . . we have issues, but we’re not that bad, are we?

I say we beat Duke, but it’s going to be a tough win. I just don’t have any faith that we can block up front or that we can generate a pass rush. I say we top the Devils 24-18.

I’d have to say Hire Willy Mac. His credintials are good, and I bet he would be a hit with Tigernet. Maybe even do a one on one interview with them? Anyone else agree? Oh are we doing a talk about with a duke blog?

Thanks for the consideration, but I don’t wanna piss off the entire Clemson community. Also, I couldn’t find a Duke blog that we could comfortably trust.
