For those of you actually going up to Boston to catch the game, we’ve put together a list of some things to check out as Willy Mac went up there back in 2006. If you haven’t gone up to Boston for the game you should check it out sometime. Since there are a bunch of Tiger fans staying near or at Copley Square, most of the items we’ve put on this list are located close by there.
Be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes, thermal underwear, and jackets (Thanks mom!) as it will be very cold, ranging from lows in the mid twenties to highs in the mid fifties. We’ve found a ten day forecast from Weather.com for you guys.
Vinny T’s
This is a great Italian restaurant that is extremely accommodating. Dress nice but not too nice. The menu is fairly priced but you might want to set up reservations in advance if eating dinner there. Here is a link to their corporate website. Here is a link to the contact info and a review for the restaurant near Copley Square. At first we thought that Vinny Testaverde had something to do with this joint but apparently this isn’t so.
Copley Place shopping mall
There is a pretty good mall set up and connected to the major hotels. It kind of resembles a really nice Peachtree Plaza. If anything, it’d be a nice suggestion if you’re bringing chicks along for the trip.
Cigar Masters
Cigar Masters is a very good cigar lounge/shop located just a few blocks from the Copley Square area. The website says you need reservations but Willy Mac went there in 2006 and got in just fine without any.
Sam Adams Brewery
This is probably one of the cooler parts of a trip to Boston. You can check out their tour schedules on their website. It’s not the main brewery, but it is a lot of fun. They take you through the history of the Boston Beer Company, Jim Koch, and the process they use to make the beer. At the end there is a gift shop as well as a free pitcher of whatever booze they have on tap. Definitely a must see.
Boylston Street
Located just a few blocks from Copley, this is where a bunch of good bars, pubs, and restaurants are located. When in doubt, just find that street and you’ll be fine. One tip: the streets heading towards the bay are all in alphabetical order if you get lost. Oh yeah, one more tip: Don’t go to a bar named Ramrod. Don’t even google it. Trust me, I fell on that grenade for you already.

go to Regina’s in the North End of Boston…it’s the best pizza any of you Southerners will ever have. Also try out the Harpoon Brewery tour on the South Boston Waterfront. You don’t have to pay to get in (unilke Sam Adams), their beer is better, and they get you feeling pretty buzzed on the tour. Instead of going to Legal SeaFoods, which is a chain, try the Union Oyster House in downtown next to Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall…it’s got great seafood, and a lot of cool history.
For bars near Copley, the Pour House is cheap (for the area) and has great food. If you’ve got money to spend shopping, then go to Newbury Street which is right near Copley.

To everybody that went, have a safe trip and give ‘em a cadence count for me. I’ll be shouting at my TV from the comfort of my lay-z-boy

If you are in the North End you gotta hit Mike’s bakery for dessert. Bring some insulin as it is beyond great.
One cabby told me that “President Clinton never leaves Boston without a case of something from Mike’s Bakery”. I replied that “I thought that President Clinton didn’t leave Boston without a case of something only a penicillin shot could cure”.
He didn’t find it quite as funny as I did.

Just got back from Cigar Masters and I need to high light that it’s also a definite must if you’re into good booze and good cigars. Not to pricey either. Their back lounge is an awesome spot to chill out.

Glad to hear some of you folks are coming up to Boston. Couple of things: the Copley Place mall is also attached to the Prudential Center, coupled with Newbury Street leaves a lot of shopping the ladies can entertain themselves with.
Another note, Vinny T’s is a chain that was recently bought out by Bertucci’s (and they are currently running it into the ground) slightly better chain Italian can be had a block away at Papa Razzi’s. A bit closer to BC, there is Presto’s in Cleveland Circle, which is great for fairly cheap but delicious slices.
Cleveland Circle will be where y’all are likely to find your brethren, likely congregating at Roggie’s (lots of beer on tap, decent food) and some brave souls at Mary Ann’s (dive bar, no food).
Hope you enjoy your trip. I’ve put together a resource for visiting fans: http://www.adamgs.com/bc-information/ .
