Per ESPN:
Clemson running back C.J. Spiller had mixed emotions seeing Bowden let go.
“I’m shocked. We are 3-3 because we didn’t make enough big offensive plays,” Spiller said. “I’m shocked by our record and now I’m shocked that our coach is gone.
“I enjoyed playing for coach Bowden and I liked him, but in the end he was yelling at us to be leaders and it wasn’t working. He did all he could to motivate us but guys weren’t buying into what he was saying. And he said a lot of the same things over and over again.
“He let the offensive coordinator [Rob Spence] run the show and we got away from me and James [Davis]. I think part of the problem was when he benched Cullen. Some people wanted the offensive coordinator fired, [Bowden benched] the quarterback and then he got fired.”
MIKE TIRICO IS OFF BASE
On ESPN Radio just now, Mike Tirico was talking to Kirk Herbstreit about the Clemson situation. He said, and I’m paraphrasing, “Clemson fans, and I mean no disrespect, but they think they’re in the SEC, and they’re not. And they can’t win on that level.”
Before I go nuclear here, let’s talk about what’s true about that statement. Okay, true that we’ve fared poorly against the SEC lately. True that many Clemson fans have extremely high (some might say unreal) expectations since the Danny Ford era. True that the SEC is home to such powers as LSU, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. So, there is a basis of truth in his sentiment.
But to try and say that there’s this special aura to the SEC that no team outside of it can sniff is fucking retarded. We think we’re Vanderbilt? We think we’re Sakerlina? We think we’re fucking Ole Miss? This is a guy from Syracuse who wouldn’t know college football if it gave him a blumpkin, buying into the mouthbreather hype that ESPN has now officially entered into with their 8 gazillion dollar contract with that conference. What does he mean “can’t win on that level?.” We don’t have as much tradition as some of those schools, but our stadium and facilities are not much worse. There are a lot of schools that don’t have what it takes to win at a high level, Clemson is not one of those. Maybe if we started accepting any retard who can throw a football we’d be better off. Well, not with our previous coach. To Mike’s defense, he went on later with Scott Van Pelt and showered a little praise on the school, but saying someone can’t win on a certain level, especially in the land of great parity that CFB is slowly becoming, is dumb.

Did Harper really say he got what he deserved?
That’s pretty bold.
Now, what’s the over/under on wins and losses for the rest of the season? I’m thinking 4

Jason, that’s awesome.
Also, how painfully awkardis it going to be when we play Florida State? Yeesh.

Maybe players shouldn’t comment (or pop off in the case of Cullen Harper) about this stuff. It doesn’t seem like it could do anything but cause them grief later.
Just a thought.

This week is leading into what could be the greatest EKR of all time. I know you guys are feeling the pressure. Take it easy. Start off with Busch, eat something that has a lot of bread in it, like a pan pizza or a sub, then switch over to the hard stuff.

Thanks Dwight. It’s almost as if this week’s EKR should be so epic yet obvious, it’s impossible to write. Nothing I can come up with will meet expectations. I’ll try damned hard.

Wow, I thought Mike Tirico was decent until now. “That level” ? Does he mean losing to LA-Monroe and the Citadel as Bama and South Carolina have done in recent memory?
Spence should be fired, Harper should start (with a lot of Korn playing time), and Dabo is rightfully given a half-season long job interview. Also, keep Vic Koenning (sp?) because he is definitely worth it.

Tirico’s an idiot. I hear that point every day from Georgia fans living in Atlanta, that Clemson’s expectations are too high. But that completely ignores the fact that Clemson doesn’t play in the SEC – so it’s not unreasonable for Clemson fans to be upset at having not won our decidely mediocre DIVISION. Maybe the insane cocaine-fueled hype train before this season changed some expectations, but among the Clemson crowd I run with we were mainly concerned with making it to Tampa this year.

Tirico needs to keep his yap shut. We have long long been referred to as an “SEC team playing in a basketball conference” with regards to our tradition, facilities, etc. There is absolutely no reason we should not be able to at least win our division every now and again, let alone the conference title. I don’t remember Tirico saying we couldn’t win on a national level before the season when we were ranked 9th. When teams with very little historical success such as Wake Forest and Louisville are meeting each other in BCS bowls we should expect to be there too.

Having spilled my blood & sweat on the practice fields under Tommy West & now living in VA among the horde of mouthbreathing VT fans that think they invented football & Neckbubble is the 2nd coming of Knute f-cking Rockne, it’s fair to say that the expectations for winning at least a division title let alone an ACC title are not unreasonable. If there ever was a year in recent memory that we should have had a legitimate shot, this was it. Had we not pissed down our leg two straight years to the f-cking Hokies we could have been possibly looking at a 3rd trip to the ACC promised land.

Tirico actually said that shit?
Look, I’m a grad student at LSU. I know the facilities they have here. The major difference is the indoor practice arena. LSU’s TAF (their version of IPTAY) generates a couple million more than IPTAY. Thats it folks. Baton Rouge, as a place to live, is a shithole in comparison to Clemson. Littlejohn > Maravich Center. Kingsmore > Old Alex Box field. (They are building a brand new baseball stadium)
I’ve been to Auburn, Ole Piss and Georgia. Clemson’s facilities, as they stand now and after the next phase of WEZ, are comparable to all these schools or better.
We have a fanbase that might as well be SEC. Ours is very different from all the rest in the ACC. We are small, yes. We can generate the money that the SEC powers currently do.
