Clemson lost to Wake Forest last night, 12-7. I am not nearly as angry after this game as acceptance has set in at just how bad the coaching is and how it has trickled down to the team (mostly the offense). I think it’s sort of like pissing yourself and being all angry and confused at first and then just settling into resigned melancholy, being like “Hey, yeah, I pissed myself. Oh, well. Here I am, all pissy and smelling vaguely of popcorn. Aw, now it’s starting to get cold. Well, here I am.”
The Sporting Gnomes have a pretty much perfect take on things up at their site. They claim the team has gone full retard. Yes.
Gene Sapakoff of the Post & Courier, who picked Clemson to run the table this season, says he won’t be fooled again. (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) I can’t think of a fan who could still have any enthusiasm for this team.
Random thoughts.
- Jessie Palmer looks like Ed Helms’ character from The Office with an abnormally swollen head.
- Craig James, while at times right about the Tigers, is still a douche.
- Was there enough coverage of the state fair?
- I don’t recall ever watching a Clemson team that’s injured as easily as this one. Not sure what the cause of that is, exactly. Maybe it’s less embarassing not being on the field.
- Rob Spence had 10 days to prepare his offense and couldn’t have done much worse. If he still has his job by the time the GT game rolls around I’ll not be surprised, but I will be incensed.
- You know what we should have done more of? Running James Davis into a big pile of Wake Forest defenders.
- Cullen Harper made more poor decisions than he did good ones for the most part. Overthrown passes, hanging receivers out to dry, throwing the ball out of bounds on that end of the half Hail Mary, throwing the ball out of bounds on third and long late in the fourth, running out of bounds instead of trying to gut it out for another couple yards for a first down. Sure he had poor protection, but not all of his mistakes had to do with protection. Korn should get a shot. Worst case scenario: he doesn’t do any better and the coaches are proven right. Best case: we might win a fucking game.
- With the exception of the first two Wake drives, the defense did a good job. It’s hard to operate when your offense is so shitty that it keeps you on the field the whole game, however. Blackwell has got to hate Spence.

I love Clemson, I always have(well except for a stretch in high school when I thought I was too cool for them). But regardless, I support Clemson football, and I hate to see them lose. But honestly, I’m starting to not even care. Is that bad? I mean am I a bad fan? If I am, I honestly don’t care, b/c Clemson hasn’t done ANYTHING for it’s fan base since I’ve been on this earth, and God forbid they ever make a good decision and do what’s best instead of always trying to tell us what’s best. I can’t understand why our Athletic Department is so scared to make the right decision for Clemson Football’s future. Oh well, I’ll just keep paying my tuition and IPTAY money, maybe they’ll listen to us fans and supporters who pay their fucking salary one of these days, but don’t hold your breath…

No, it’s not wrong not to care any more. Clemson is my alma mater and I’ll always love it, I just can’t keep caring that much about this football team under the current management. I don’t need that kind of emotional downer in my life. I’ll still watch every game and cover them here on the blog, and of course I still root for them to win, but there is a certain level of disconnection.

I’m not an alum or an IPTAY member, but I’ve been a diehard fan since the 70′s. I’m not giving up on the team and hope they win every week, but I’m not spending anymore of my coin going to games anymore. Not until they get rid of Bowden and his idiot OC. I’m gonna check out Wofford Sat. Watch a well coached team play. Outta be fun.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I feel strangely relieved today that we went ahead and put ourselves out of contention early this year and didn’t drag it out until the last ACC game or next to last and had everyone’s hopes up. Plus, it looks like a change-is-a comin’, which is a plus. I liken Bowden to a middle relief pitcher, he has done a good job in some ways, set us up with some talent but we need a closer to come in and seal the deal. Not even winning the Atlantic Division is unacceptable at this juncture with the teams we’ve had and been playing against. I could if FSU, Miami and VT were in the same state that they were in the late 90s and early 2000s but not with the shape the conference is in now.

I usually try and make it to one game a year (being from Louisville KY makes it a long haul and I’m an old crotchety man nowadays). However, this year I haven’t even made an attempt. I thought that maybe a win at Wake would change my mind, but after watching this lackluster crap, I have given up trying.
Maybe a new coach will be more fun to watch. This is brutal.
I’m just sorry to watch JD and AK’s NFL stock take a downturn. I’m sure CJ is kicking himself for not picking UF. I bet his mother reminds him daily…

Like a friend of mine says, Tom Bowden=Jim Donnan. He can recruit and get you to the hump, but never will he get you over it. Bowden won’t fire Spence, but I do see him taking over play-calling just because he knows the season is tanked and its his job on the line.
But in all my years watching Clemson I never can recall an offense playing as bad, even in games where we were shutout.
Now I’m regretting buying GT tickets, I’ll be traveling all the way from Louisiana to watch us get beat by 35 points when I shouldve just kept my LSU-SC tickets.
All any of us can do now is voice our dissatisfaction to TDP and Barker. Everybody should write a letter, telling them (respectfully) of our problems with this staff and what we want done about it. Tell them to hire the meanest sumbitch they can find, and we dont give a shit about academics in comparison.

I think Bowden is not above firing Spence, but only when Bowden’s job is really on the line. Keep in mind Bowden fired his own brother in law Jack Hines a few years ago to save his butt, so I don’t think he’s not above firing someone he’s not related to in order to save it again. Same goes for Brad Scott. But it comes down to whether Bowden is given an ultimatum. If he’s given one, he’ll fire anyone and everyone to save himself.
But then again, firing Spence is only a diversion, a stalling by Bowden which will only prolong his tenure at Clemson. Don’t buy into the “fire Spence” outcry — Bowden is the core problem and must be removed from office. Otherwise, nothing will ever change.

I told my wife last night that I have come to accept losses as small steps to ending Bowdens stay. They are more tolerable that way.

Since last season I have been thinking of the similarities between Clemson under Bowden and UGA under Donnan. They both get great skill players and win just enough to hang around, but never get over the hump as Charlie so aptly put it.
I also recall that the Bulldogs under Donnan were poorly conditioned and injury prone. Could conditioning have anything to do with Clemson’s injurys?
I’m going to start going to Savannah State games. They wear orange, they’re the Tigers, they suck, but they’re only 5 minutes from the house.

The parallels between Donnan and Bowden have been brought up before and are spot on. We’re going to be doing a post about it soon.

I am a student here at Clemson and I spent the night camping on the concrete outside the stadium for GA Tech Tickets in the rain. I also camped for the Alabama disappointment. To be honest I dont know if I’m willing to put myself through sleeping on concrete just for decent tickets again. Maybe for the Carolina game, because well, at least they suck too.
