Brief bit of info coming from this afternoon’s teleconference. Nobody is fired, but Willy Korn has been named starter at QB for the GT game.
Baby steps.
Putting in Korn won’t help that much if Spence is still calling plays. Fans should revolt if he is not fired before the GT game. His staggering ineptitude the past two games and post game quote when asked what was going on with his offense, “I don’t understand that, okay?” should be more than enough grounds for dismissal.
***UPDATE***
More probably completely unfounded rumors are saying that an announcement will be made Monday that Bowden and/or Spence have been fired. I don’t really believe that, but we’ll see come Monday.

Where’s EKR? Probably making a quick stop at the local BP for a 12 pack of Busch to fuel his all-afternoon and night EXTREME NCAA 2008 videogame marathon with KORN as starter! EXTREME IMMUNITY FROM DRUNK DRIVING! THE SEASON BEGINS NOW!

Band-aid on a gunshot wound. Bowden’s now proven he’s desperate with this ploy to save face because now he’s caving into the fans. Remember Bowden has always stated he works by the motto “if you coach according to the fans, you’ll be siting in the stands with them.”
Imagine what would happen if Korn got injured in the GT game?

And Bowden has yet to inform Harper of the switch. I guess he’ll read it on the net. It’s like getting faxed your termination. Real classy, Tommy.

Can somebody kindly explain why he didn’t put Korn in last night? I’m really having a hard time figuring that one out. Didn’t he say in the post game that he never considered making a quarterback change DURING the game? 20 hours later it dawns on him? More of Bowdens bullshit. Talk about closing the barn door after the horse is out…

It’s much more complicated than just that, Tom.
Also, Tribble Reese recently told a friend that Cullen was pissed about all the Korn talk, and after the Maryland game pretty much gave up on the season saying “I’ve got sixtysomething days left of this shit and I’m outta here.” He’s just ready to leave and hope Bowden and Spence haven’t totally sabotaged his shot at the draft.

Noticed looking at the notes from Coach Herpes presser that he has decided to tell the press that KORN will be the starter vs. GT (we need EKR), but hasn’t had a chance to let Harper know. Nice! No matter how bad Harper has been, you’d think that Coach Herpes would at least be man enough to tell Harper instead of letting him find out by some reporter asking his reaction to Coach Herpes’ decision.
And yes, until we figure out how to get rid of Coach Herpes, who won’t go away- just like real herpes, I will be referring to him as Coach Herpes.
By the way, I don’t have herpes. I have always been smart about the women I bone and never, ever used Terry Don Phillips brand condoms.

As much as Spence and Bowden have NOT done for Harper, I don’t think their actions will keep him from playing on Sundays. How many receivers has he overthrown this year? He does it consistently. I think his shoulder still bothers him and he won’t admit it.

Coach Herpes? Fail…
Chili, I think Cullen Harper sabotaged his own draft status by not being good enough to play in the NFL. Just my opinion though.

Harper keeps himself from playing on sundays. A good QB on a bad team can win a few games, see Eli Manning at Ole Piss, Cutler at Vandy, but a QB that throws off his back foot, overthrows and underthrows receivers, doesnt look off his designed screens, doesnt read the LB’s coming up on slants who pick off his passes….wont be going to the NFL.
Harper has had little help from a couple of our WRs, but if you want to be the QB this is what you deal with.

While I’ll readily admit Harper hasn’t been playing well Bowden is diverting attention off of Spence and himself and making Harper the scapegoat. Can’t believe Harper doesnt’ know yet – never should tell the press first. Kind of a low blow there.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable that Korn wasn’t put in last night. You’re not sitting there keeping stats of all the incompletions or sacks and saying “well that was definitely Cullens fault but the last one was a poorly run route”. If the difference between the two QBs isn’t significant and your starter isn’t throwing like 4 interceptions in a half, then I think it’s understandable that you would focus on failing to fix all the other things going wrong than just throwing a coaching hail mary by putting in Korn.
And while it sucks that Cullen is going to find out from the press, it’s not like Tommy had much choice in the matter. The game was last night. He watched the tape this morning. He made his decision shortly after that. He then tried to call Cullen, but was unable to reach him before the last press interaction he’ll have before practice on Sunday. That says more about the fact that this move was preemptive to calm the fans down about his job than anything else.

Step in the right direction. We got pretty much the same pressure on Skinner that Wake got on Harper all night. The difference was that Skinner has some scrambling ability and ran for first downs instead of A. Throwing the ball away or B. crumpling to the turf like a rag doll. From what I saw of Korn in high school as well as the few games he’s managed to sneak into in college, I definitely see that escapability that Harper was missing.
Will this be enough to salvage our lackluster season? probably not
Will this save TB’s job? Hopefully not
Will this help restore some of that tiger pride that has lain dormant all season? God I hope so

You know, I see cuin1993′s avatar w/ Paul Lynde, and it makes me think of a famous quick-liner he did back in the day on Hollywood Squares. To Clemsonize it….
PETER MARSHALL: Paul, how many men play for the Clemson football team?
PAUL LYNDE: About half.

I’m not a football expert, but why would you reveal your quarterback change 8 days prior to the game and allow GT to work against a different scout QB in practice.
If Bowden had any cajones he would have said, “Our offense stinks. We are going to work tirelessly over the next few days to evaluate element of this stinking corpse. Nothing is sacred, we will change whatever is necessary in terms of scheme and personel to field a winning team against GT.”
Look for one last vote of confidenct for Spence before he is shit-canned. Declaration of support and termination could occur in the same day. Let’s hope for Monday.

on Oct 11, 2008 at 9:47 am:
If Bowden had any balls he would have made this decision before the season started, because the talent gap is glaringly obvious between the two. However, since he is a nutless sack of shit, he had to let Harper go in there and lose the battle of public opinion (and a few games) before he could put Korn in.

on Oct 11, 2008 at 10:41 am:
Cullen never had any shot at the draft. His footwork is bad, his throwing mechanics are bad, and now that his offensive line has gone away, his decisions are bad too. He’s never been able to really make things happen when the odds are stacked against him. 3rd and long is unmanageable on every drive when Harper is at the helm.
Who would have thought that last year’s line would make this one look stellar? I’ll give them some credit for doing their best with five or six different starting lineups in six games, but they’ve just been bad. I’d love to see what would happen if we could stay healthy. Fire Batson too?

Please give the masses an Extreme Korn Report! With gas prices the way they are I wouldn’t have come to the GT game had they not benched Harper.
Also Batson is a great strength coach, our players are soft mentally. Seriously NFL coaches have asked Batson for advice.
27Kyle
on Oct 12, 2008 at 9:46 am:
Being soft mentally has nothing to do with players constantly getting injured. You can’t fucking will yourself to not get injured. That’s dumb pseudoscience horseshit. At some point, we have to realize that we might have conditioning problems. We have multiple serious season-killing injuries every year. I don’t care what NFL coach talked to Batson. NFL teams and other college teams have had interest in Spence too, but I don’t see many people supporting him. :-p
And gas prices? Really? They’ve come down almost a dollar in the past week. You’re better off blaming the stock market.

We should make our Women’s Volleyball coach the offensive coordinator. I mean she did win the ACC last year, and she’s not afraid to kill(as in a volleyball kill). So yeah, that’s my proposal, b/c outside of Purnell and Legget, she’s the best we got at this football retarded school. But on a brighter note, I hope Willy is the next Woody, b/c God knows if Woody would’ve had this much talent to work with we would have been National Champs by now!

I think it has less to do with conditioning and more to do with being so goddamn predictable that the defensive back gets a running start to nail our receiver as soon as the screen pass touches his hands.
