WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck requires Flash Player 9 or better.

According to Mickey Plyler and a number of other independent sources, things are brewing in Clemson today and Tommy Bowden is expected to finally be shitcanned in a press conference this afternoon in Clemson. Mickey is reporting the following bits of conjecture on his blog.

Here is what I know at this point:
*Several key players in this decision understand that a change has to be made. It is now not a matter of if but has now become a matter of when.

*I was told by a very good source that one of the board of trustees cancelled an important business meeting this morning because he had to head to Clemson. I do not know the nature of his visit to Clemson and it may be a sheer coincidence. It is not fair to assume that this concerns football but I think it is fair to be intrigued by the timing.

*I have some information about Clemson’s interest in replacement candidates and information about potential candidates’ interest in Clemson. However, until a change is made I think it is inappropriate to discuss. I hope you will agree on this policy. Believe me, the blog will discuss in detail potential candidates as soon as an opening occurs but this is not the appropriate time.

*I have been told that several key boosters, former members of the board and top university officials have been in contact with the athletic department. These contacts obviously started last week but have continued throughout the early part of this morning and more are scheduled this afternoon.

I’ve (Chili) had several other trusted sources contact me today and tell me some of the same things.

Somewhere…. a lip is beginning to quiver.

Although a source from another site is standing firm that TDP will not be announcing anything today and has stood firm that he does not discuss personnel issues during the season. They claim that there is a slight possibility of an announcement to clear the air but no reason to speculate that TB will be fired.

So I just want to make it perfectly clear that this is RUMOR and speculation.

***UPDATE***

Plyler reporting that Bowden’s regularly scheduled teleconference is still on for this afternoon. Other sources are telling me that Spence could be the one fired today, ala Auburn’s situation, and that Bowden might be sticking around. Of course, nothing out of the ordinary could (and probably will) happen, so hang tight.

Cheer up

Levon Kirkland would be a great interim coach…

As exciting as this is, I’ll believe it when I see it. But I will agree, this has a little more umph to it that any other regular press conference. If Spence is fired it will be a letdown, because changing coordinators won’t break through 10 years of thick mediocrity.

They do need to fire him now and lock up a top coach, because if they don’t they’ll be in an arms race with Tennessee and guess who will win that one.

Huj, I definitely don’t believe any of this stuff right now. I’ve gotta see his lip quivering to believe it.

The loss to Wake should be the ultimate cure for Bowden, the Valtrex to Clemson’s raging case of Coach Herpes.
The really cool thing about it is we can give our case of Coach Herpes to another team and suffer no ill effects.

    the LIP QUIVER IS COMING…

I’m hoping and praying, but I just don’t see it happening now. I think this is his last year but he hasn’t coached his last game. I hope like hell I’m wrong…

Chili, you want to see a lip quiver….well I have the next best thing. I e-mailed a pic to you to your feedback addy with Bowden biting his lower lip during last night’s post-game presser. Pretty funny really. And pathetic.

That’s the expression of someone who has no idea what happened, nor no idea on how to fix anything. Totally lost.

The loss to DUKE a few years ago should have been the cure to Bowden-itis. But TDP is a pussy.

They will pull an Auburn first in attempts to save Bowden for a few more games. After that……no hope.

First off, I cant wait until we have a new head coach - hopefully by Monday. Second, if I am the new coach… next summer would be absolute boot camp - I mean geez oh man, our offense is a bunch of little girls. Since the Alabama game, every single baby on that offense mopes around or stumbles off the field with an imaginary injury. Sure the coaching sucks and they have no clue how to motivate, but the new recruiting staff for 2009+ better start finding some guys with some heart and determination, rather than a bunch of show queens.

I don’t know, guys. I can’t see them firing a guy who just got a new contract in the spring…but I hope they do. Maybe Bowden will quit? Wouldn’t that void his buy-out? If any coaches are fired, they should add Brad Scott to the list. What a useless tub of goo. I think he lost interest after his son left the team and he could no longer pimp his son’s “Special Play.” Do you guys remember that? Ah, what a crew…
