RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THE BAMA GAME

I’m glad we scheduled Alabama first instead of a cupcake. We got to find out right off the bat that this team is the same team we’ve had under Coach Bowden and staff, the same sort of finesse team that can get broken and rolled up and shut down by highly physical opponents. No need to get our hopes up only to get them dashed later in the season.

The downside of that is that pretty much the whole nation saw Clemson get the old Last Tango in Paris treatment from Alabama, sans the butter.

Our stacked skill positions mean nothing when our lines get blasted in the trenches.

I don’t know what makes our team so easily injured, but that shit’s got to stop.

Our defense should try the whole “wrapping up” thing when they make contact. Supposedly works wonders.

I got sick of the announcers bringing up SEC vs ACC every five minutes. I could’ve sworn the teams on the field were wearing the uniforms of their respective schools, not of their conferences. Commissioner John Swofford wasn’t on the damned sidelines coaching. Although maybe that would’ve been an improvement. For the record, if you’re obsessed with the whole conference thing, ACC teams lost spectacularly yesterday to out of conference opponents.

I’m feeling disgusted at Clemson. I really let myself believe they were going to break the trend this season. That’s my fault. I knew we’d lose games, and I definitely thought we could lose to Bama, but I had no idea we’d have the kind of 2006, 2007 Virginia Tech game utter collapse. The sort of slamming-on-the-breaks destruction that makes you realize that something about Clemson hasn’t changed a bit in the past few years.

James Davis is now 0-4 in games played in his hometown.

Well I would rather see this shit happen at the beginning of the season than near the end. With that being said, it’s painfully obvious that Bowden and staff have worn out their welcome. They are totally incapable of getting the team prepared mentally and physically to play a big game. And for Christ’s sake will they please stop calling Davis and Spiller Thunder & Lightning? Sans Spiller’s touchdown, they both laid big turds in the Georgia Dome last night.

I was trying unsuccessfully to listen to the radio broadcast after the game. I’m sure it was filled with a very solemn Bowden stating how “we” didn’t execute (because his plan, if executed, works great), how “we” were whipped up front and how injuries and youth played a big part of the loss.
More douche-baggery from the Southland’s biggest douche.
The reason the players get injured is because they aren’t conditioned for strength, only for speed. The reason the SEC is better (even Vandy is better) is because those guys are beasts, while Clemson is filled with little wimpy boys that go to bible class and don’t lift weights.
I hope this loss stings. I hope it humbles all that talk of a “special season” and a “special team.”
Herbsteit was right last night. He said “I’m seeing a team that is blaming each other and is dejected and not playing with any fire.” He’s seeing a Bowden coached team.
We missed out on Johnson, we missed out on Cutcliff, we missed out on a number of coaches that could have brought smash-mouth back to death valley. Instead we got “flash in the pan” and finesse.
We gots who we gots, gentlemen.
    And we suck.
Ten years is a long time and a lot of rope. Someone should have hung themselves by now.
PS- TDP is a pussy. If he had balls, he would have fired Tommy three years ago.

This situation is shameful. We have the fans, the money, and the facilities to be champions year in and year out, but our leadership block the way. Regardless of what they say about supporting the program and their desire to win a championship, the truth is their focus is solely on breaking into the “Top 20 Public Schools” in the nation. Having the great facilities, popping in and out of the top 25, and having a clean-cut, likable coach are all that’s needed to help Clemson reach that “Top 20 Publics” goal, having a championship caliber team would be great, but not necessary. So, our leadership is content to allow us to suffer through years of embarrassment and ridicule, and they’ll continue to do so until they feel our pain. The only way to motivate our selfish, shit-for-brains leadership is to either do something to embarrass them or hurt their pocketbooks so much that they are forced to make the damn changes that obviously should have been made years ago. If we have to suffer through a couple of rough seasons to break in a new coaching staff and to get some “Danny Ford” era, stomp your ass players, then so be it. We’re suffering anyway and this torture has got to stop. I know that we will still attend games, we’re true fans and we’re going to attend and watch our Tigers, but I recommend that all Tigers stop buying anything Clemson, cut or reduce IPTAY money and any other scholarships that may be supported, overwhelm our leadership with mail letting them know our true feelings, and wear black to the games instead of orange. Let’s cut the damn money supply and black out Death Valley to show that we’re fed up with this shit. We’ll continue to be a bad joke until we force a change.

i dont know if wearingblackand not supporting the school will be a good appraoch to take to this, but youre right that we need to fix this shit.

As much as it pains me to even suggest wearing anything but school colors and withholding funds, I just don’t see where we as the masses have any other options to nudge the real powers into fixing things. They’re in their comfort zone with the status quo and have proven that embarrassment in the form of ugly on-field play is not going to affect them. We have a problem and need to identify the way to fix it. Blogs, emails, and embarrassing national reviews haven’t worked, so we need viable options. I’m open to suggestions.

For the record, I grew up bleeding orange, I’m an alum, and I think Bowden is a great guy, so I don’t wish anything bad on him, but he’s a horrible coach and we deserve better. I have three young sons who have inherited my love of all things Clemson and it magnifies the aggravation to see the disappointment in their faces after such embarrassing play by our team.

it’d be nice to see a whole stadium of black shirts
That’d be really really cool. Making the place orange free until a change is made and TDP and Bowden are gone.
I tell you this much, with every finger Bowden and this current coaching staff puts on Howard’s Rock, the whole “If youre not gonna give 110% keep your damn hands off my rock” experience is cheapened. They should keep their damn hands off the rock and should stop running down the hill. Muther fuckers.
oh, and willi, take that picture of Bowden off the block-c logo. He doesn’t deserve to be there with his “deer in the headlights” face.

I also felt physically ill watching this game. Why has no one else brought up what Bowden did with the first two offensive series? He calls a “play” to fulfill a promise to his little recruit Jamie Harper. Harper gets the first handoff. OK, fine. Except, Saban knew it was going to happen and so did Herbstreet up in the booth, who predicted it would happen. The first play is snuffed out. Second play, same shit. Third play, what do you do? Try a pass? OK, Bama snuffed that out, too. Time to punt. Bama drives, stopped at the goal line and forced to kick a field goal. Second Clemson offensive series. Does Bowden put in his starters? Does he think to himself, “This shit is really pissing me off, it’s time to start kicking out the mutherfucking jams!” Nope. Hand off to Jamie Harper. More bullshit. Punt. Bama comes down the field and scores a touchdown. Now we’re down 13-0. Bowden panics. Spence panics. Plays that were rejected by the Japanese programmers of Tecmo Bowl V.1 start coming in. This is the point when I started getting flashbacks to the 2002 Tangerine Bowl against Texas Tech and felt like puking with every shot of Bowden’s goofy face.

There is really no excuse for us getting our asses handed to us on national television. AGAIN. Sure, the game doesn’t matter in the grand scope of this season’s “Tiptoe through the cupcakes” part of out schedule (i.e. playing the rest of the ACC), but it makes Clemson university look like shit. Luckily, the media is focusing in on Bowden and his inablility to get it up for the big games instead of calling Clemson a backwoods bunch of retards, but if Bowden stays on, those days are coming.

Think about this: how did Bama end the first half, by running out the clock and being happy with their shut-out? Nope, they monitored the clock, drove down the field and kicked another field goal. How did Clemson end its final series in the fourth quarter? By giving up on the field and letting the clock run out. That, more than anything else, is indicative of Bowden’s mindset. He’s a wimp, he’s a quitter and he needs to be removed and replaced by someone who will keep the Tigers fighting no matter what the score. The guy makes me sick.

I grew up in Upstate SC, so I’m pretty familiar with Clemson football. I’m a 2nd generation UGA alum, so my perspective on this topic is a little skewed. But, I’m honestly floored by what continues to happen at Clemson. I was around during the Ford days and attended many games in the 80′s when Clemson was alwasy really competitive. So, here’s my question: Why, given your history, the amount of money & support from your alum & fans, a ripe bed for recruiting the state of SC, NC, & Georgia, etc. did you decide to saddle yourselves with Tommy Bowden again?????

I don’t get it. When did a proud program like Clemson decide that mediocrity is what you deserve? Clemson has too much going for them to continue to put up with this embarrassment year after year. Viva la revolt!

Additionally, after seeing 9 years of all Tommy has to offer, why would Clemson fans then expect better coaching this year? You’ve had some incredible talent in the Bowden years, yet always net the same results. Why did anyone expect this year to be different with Bowden?

I’m sorry to say, I think you’ve seen the best he has to offer. Hopefully y’all can figure out a way to pay off his $4 mil buyout & send him packing. I’d love to see you back in college football relevance again soon!

Good luck to you the remainder of the season – especially against the lamecocks! Go Dawgs!

The more I think about it, the more I like the “Blackout” idea. How about black shirts with the Clemson logo on them or maybe just the tiger paw? We could demonstrate that we are unified in our vision of a Clemson without Bowden as Head Football Coach. Great idea, APB.

I told you that we would get beat by Alabama. We will also lose to FSU. Im not gonna get negative like every other Clemson fan because its always the same story, this revolving change of the seasons shouldn’t be new to any of us. When we stand on the edge of becoming relevant and respected we always get pushed back. This is when fans call for Tommys head. We win three or four in a row and we settle down. We play a decent opponent. We beat decent opponent and then Hope returns. Fans are back to believing that this is our year again. Here comes a big game now, one that matters, there is excitement in the air, can we finally get over the hump? Herbstreit, Corso and the media pundits are all telling us that Clemson will finally bust through. Can we finally get over the hump? The answer will be no. Reality sets in at the very beginning of the game and we know what is going to happen. We lose. Fans call for Tommys head. Process repeats itself. This season is no different. We will drop back to around #20 in the nation Monday. We will beat down citadull, NC State, SC State and maryland. We will be 4-1 and 2-0 in the ACC, our ranking should be up to about 14 at this point. Uhoh here we play Wake Forest on the road, can Clemson do it? This is where we beat that decent opponent that will put us right outside the top ten if not in it. We will be 3-0 in the ACC, all being wins over divisional opponents, so fans will get excited about being in a great posistion to take the Atlantic. Last night was just a taste of the letdown that is going to occur this year. Wether you want to believe it or not, Clemson is going to be back in the top ten by the time we play FSU. I assure you of this. We could be ranked as high as fifth in the nation by that game and back in the National Title talk. Yes, we will be back in the National Title hunt. No Clemson fan wants to admit that right now but if we keep winning there is no way imaginable that we are not in the top ten playing Florida State with a chance to get back in the NC picture. Once again we will find ourselves in a huge game that is even bigger than the one last night. At this point we will once again have Hope for a really great season and a possible National Title and we will be back on the edge. We all know what comes next. The FSU loss is the one that is really going to flip Clemson fans over because we were given yet another chance to accomplish something great and we let it slip through our hands but thats nothing new. The season didn’t end last night, so its time to move on.

Took the words right out of my blogpost. I was tearing my hair out watching every play. Where was our amazing speed, our most efficient QB and our star RB duo? And that 2-point conversion was just a slap in the face. But at least Buchholz isn’t blowing gimmes anymore.

I’m a northern transplant and Clemson fan by proxy (living with two others), but I think I’ve picked up on this pretty quick. Watch your hopes crumble now, feel confident after a series of cupcakes puts you up at 6-1 in the middle of the season, then blow it, go to another “you’re almost good” bowl and lose that. Again.

Why did they give a raise and contract extension to Bowden? He’s alright, but he’s got us stuck at 9-4 with a fairly middling SoS. I’ve heard longer-time Clemson fans says it’s better than the ’90s, but is it worth $2.2mil/year?

Chili, my apologies. A clarification has been made at tigernet already. Although I still say wearing black to the games is a more effective approach. I think our players WOULD give 110% if they were so motivated. Not allowing them to rub the rock puts the blame on the players while I put the blame on the coaches. Nevertheless, I should’ve made it clear that the black out til tommy’s out idea wasn’t a block-c endorsed plan, although you guys may want to consider it.
